Does this work as a first name?

I now want twin baby girls called Kev and Dave Grin

curlew · 17/09/2013 13:28
Grin

Isn't it funny how people wouldn't dream of calling a boy Rose, but are perfectly happy to call girls Ezra, or Percy or Frankie

burberryqueen · 17/09/2013 13:30

I have never heard of it before and i wouldn't say it was a boys name
Hmm serious?
sorry but ignorance is no excuse, it is a well known Biblical boy's
name

roundtable · 17/09/2013 13:30

There should be a thread on underused baby names. I'm dying to meet a baby Trevor. Blush

Cocolikeschocolate · 17/09/2013 13:34

Heated - thanks for the passion!

Ezra is a really lovely name for a boy and yes very underused

Friend of a friend had a baby boy called Vincent last month which I have always thought of as a 70s name.

I am looking forward to meeting a baby Brian or Sharon.

roundtable · 17/09/2013 13:40

I recently taught a Vincent aka Vinny. I loved it! I can't wait for all those names to make a comeback. I am aware that does make me a bit strange! Grin

I have a real fondness for the name Gary too. It's got a very satisfying ring to it. If I don't know someone's name who's male, I'll call them Gary or Dave.

MrsOakenshield · 17/09/2013 13:44

Ezra is a lovely boys' name. Beautiful.

GooseyLoosey · 17/09/2013 13:45

Erm, no.

LeGavrOrf · 17/09/2013 13:45

This baby boy is called Vinny as well. Grin I love it.

LeoandBoosmum · 17/09/2013 13:48

As others have said, distinctly masculine...

MadBusLady · 17/09/2013 13:48

Wasn't Nursie in Blackadder called Bernard?

JazzAnnNonMouse · 17/09/2013 13:48

I love it... For a boy.

FairPhyllis · 17/09/2013 13:50

Esra (pronounced ess-ra) is a pretty common Turkish girls' name. I think I would steer clear of Ezra for a girl though because it will confuse people.

SoftSheen · 17/09/2013 13:50

Ezra is a boys' name, but then so were Meredith, Evelyn and Hilary until they relatively recently started being used for girls.

Use Ezra if you like it, but be prepared for the fact that your daughter may spend a lifetime having to explain her name to people.

LRDMaguliYaPomochTebeSRaboti · 17/09/2013 13:50

Is everyone else reading GerOrf's post and thinking of Nanny in Blackadder?

'Bob? That's a funny name for a girl. Girls are called Elizabeth, or Mary.'

'Or Bernard.'

To be fair to the OP, I get why it sounds feminine, it's got the a at the end which lots of languages use for a feminine name.

I wouldn't, though, personally.

LRDMaguliYaPomochTebeSRaboti · 17/09/2013 13:51

Grin cross posted with you, madbus.

Great minds.

Grin And her sisters were called Donald, Eric and Basil.

MrsOakenshield · 17/09/2013 13:54

I didn't know that about Meredith. I know Hilary and Evelyn are boys' names though I still think they sound daft as boys' names.

Tell me, am I right with my apostrophe? Looks wrong with and wrong without, but I'm sure it should be there.

LRDMaguliYaPomochTebeSRaboti · 17/09/2013 14:04

Meredith can still be a boys' name - it's not common, but in Wales you sometimes get it. Meredydd Hughes (high-up cop who got caught speeding), for example.

LRDMaguliYaPomochTebeSRaboti · 17/09/2013 14:04

I plan to have a girl named Basil.

LeGavrOrf · 17/09/2013 14:14

Haha at Bernard,Donald, Eric and Basil.

I love nurse.

"It's a boy without a winkle. Praise be it's a miracle!"

LRDMaguliYaPomochTebeSRaboti · 17/09/2013 14:17

She wasn't wrong.

Bakingtins · 17/09/2013 14:22

My SIL is Esra, but she is Turkish. I've never come across another girl with the name, and would assume Ezra was a boy.
