Has Sophia's popularity waned enough for me to have it now without there being multiple Sophia's in her class?

Am a Brownie Leader, so see my fair share of little girls. Have never had a Sophia (though currently have two Sophies).

elcranko · 15/09/2013 17:42

Love Sophia. I think it depends where you are, I don't actually know any little Sophias. Sophie is more popular here.

Saffyz · 15/09/2013 17:59

It's a lovely name. I don't know any little Sophias.

mrstowers · 15/09/2013 18:00

Drowning in Sophia's here in the midlands.

Alisvolatpropiis · 15/09/2013 18:01

I have never met a Sophia.

Met loads of Sophie's. Appears to have been v popular in the late 80's where I grew up. So many my age!

dingledongle · 15/09/2013 18:06

Several Sophia's/Sofia's in SE!

Alisvolatpropiis · 15/09/2013 18:09

Oh! Just remembered a Sophia I knew once. Might have been Sofia though.

But that's still only the one.

elvisola · 15/09/2013 18:12

I have a 3 year old Sophia, there are none in her class or actually in the whole school. It's supposed to be really popular (SE) but I only know of 1 other by association.

Mrsindecision · 15/09/2013 18:23

My advice would be to choose a name you love. Whatever name you post on here, someone will say they know 20 under the age of 2. My dd has a fairly uncommon name but there still happen to be 2 of them in her class which was a bit of a surprise (we would have chosen the name irrespective of popularity I hasten to add, so it doesn't bother me in the slightest). I would say choose Sophia if it is your favourite as you may be miffed if you choose a less popular name only to discover another one in the class when your dd starts school!

BlackholesAndRevelations · 15/09/2013 18:42

I don't know any sophias either, but lots of sophies! Both are beautiful names anyway so if you like it, choose it!

Jamdoughnutfiend · 15/09/2013 18:46

I have a Sophia - she is 2. I am in London and if I had known it was so popular, I wouldn't have chosen it - was DHs choice. Does suit her though

CruCru · 16/09/2013 10:35

I love Sophia but it is very popular in north London.

JustBecauseICan · 16/09/2013 10:37

Don't know any Sophias. Know about eleventy million Sophies.

It's lovely. Very elegant.

smithwillsam · 16/09/2013 12:35

Sophia is a cute name and it has been used as both male and female names. Though the most common meaning “Wisdom”in Greek origin.

LeGavrOrf · 16/09/2013 12:37

I have a Sophia, she is 17 and she has been the only Sophia of her age throughout school etc, however I think it is now becoming more popular.

It's a lovely name though.

Just beware people calling her Sophie

Stat · 16/09/2013 12:46

I don't think the popularity of Sophia is waning. There were more Sophias born in 2012 than in 2011 (and more in 2012 than any other year recently).

evamummy · 16/09/2013 13:44

We know a few little Sophias (and Sophies) so it is a fairly popular name. Perhaps have a look at the detailed statistics to see how often the name was used last year.
