Would love views on Edward (Teddy) or Frederick (Freddie)?! Is Freddie very popular/chavy!?

Personally I can't bear Freddy. Edward is a nicer name than Frederick and Teddy is a pretty awesome nn imo.

MyNameIsSuz · 12/09/2013 21:42

I agree, Edward is much nicer and so are the short forms. Freddie isn't chavvy, but it's not as nice.

Can also use Ned for Edward

hellokitty123 · 12/09/2013 22:08

I'm not keen on Fred or Freddie, sorry.

Edward is nice but most Edwards I know go by Ed or Eddie. I'm not sure where the T in Ted comes from. Also, it helps to have the same initial for name and nickname (when it comes to labelling clothes and pe kit).

ShadowSummer · 12/09/2013 22:16

I think Edward is much nicer too.

hellokitty123 - I read somewhere that there used to be a fashion for rhyming nicknames - so Ted because it rhymes with Ed, Bill (for William) because it rhymes with Will, and so on.

Fredward (gets coat)

ilovemulberry · 13/09/2013 20:48

Edward - teddy is a fab nickname

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/09/2013 20:49

Love Edward/Teddy and love Frederick (but hate Freddie).

Funnily enough both these names are on my short list, along with Hugo. Keep changing my mind as to which I prefer. Edward is probably the most traditional in my mind, but its become very popular where we live. DH keeps changing his mind every 5 min too which doesn't help!

My granddads real name is teddy but people call him Ted, edd and Edward, I like the name. Not too keen on Fredrick
