70s/80s names

I've heard a few names recently that seem to be 70s and 80s names coming back round again (examples: Natasha, Jennifer, Laura, Michelle, Samantha and Dawn). Has anyone else heard of any? I was fairly surprised.

Personally don't like any of those. I think vintage names are coming back, 70-80s are just a bit dated that's all.

Well, names I liked included Lindsay, Jillian and Melanie because I wanted a name that sounded nice, without being too frilly, and was unusual for a baby but without being really unusual. I went for a name that peaked in 1967 I think but people often tell me they like it.

Frontdoorstep · 12/09/2013 07:33

I like all the names suggested so far.

MadBusLady · 12/09/2013 08:15

I see Laura as fairly timeless.

Somehow the 70s/80s equivalents for men seem to have dated better - Paul, Stephen, David, Robert, Andrew, Mark, Simon going by my school classes. I can imagine all those on a baby now much more than Michelle and Samantha.

Oh and Stuart (saw your other thread Grin)

MadBusLady all those boys names were popular in the 50s/60s and probably earlier too, they had a long sustained period of popularity rather than a spike.

I think Natasha and Samantha are lovely.

I know a baby Colin and a baby Dennis. Not keen on either name!

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 12/09/2013 17:44

I was born in 1969

I think there's scope for

Emma
Sarah
Claire

to be popular again.

Other names that were common when I was a child/teen were:

Deborah
Joanne (I prefer Joanna)
Tracey

1944 girl

Oh yes, I forgot Lisa

Another one that was popular then was Rebecca, which I really like

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 12/09/2013 18:00

Boys names:

John (should be more popular than it is, (IMO)
Daniel (a classic)
Darren (good riddance)
Jason (strangely, I like this, possibly due to Matt Damon/Jason and the Argonauts

I have an Angela (Angie) and a Shirley.

I wanted unusual but 'normal' names IYSWIM.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 12/09/2013 18:05

tether

I love those

If I had a girl (not going to happen), I rather like

Joy
Margaret

As an aside, when I was a girl (70s and 80s), the names I chose for a girl were

Annette
Janine

Cheers Jamie Smile

I do like joy, but had a colleague of the same name who I couldn't stand, so couldn't use it...

If DD2 had been a boy, I was all set to call him Denny/Denis (DP is French). Until someone pointed out that that would have given me Angie and Den Grin
