What do you think of the name Leon?

We recently found out that dc1 will be a boy and have pretty much decided on Leon as a name. I think it's unusual without being strange or faddy and he won't have a life time of having to spell it for people. Dh is particularly keen on this as a name. He'll probably end up being shortened to Lee a lot anyway.

He'll have 2 middle names, both after people important to me and Dh who have passed away.

I like it.

mrsbeano · 03/09/2013 12:41

I do actually like it but my initial thought was Seat.

BOF · 03/09/2013 12:44

Love it- would use it myself. Trotsky and Jean Reno are my associations.

You are right- it's distinctive without being faddy.

Madratlady · 03/09/2013 12:46

mrsbeano could be worse, at least it's just a name he'll happen to share with a car. We're not calling him Mercedes or something!

Now Mercedes, that's a lovely name for a boy. I now want to watch the film Leon. Pretty damn cool when he's 18.

DuchessFanny · 03/09/2013 12:52

Love it ! Reminds me of a really nice guy I went to school with.

BobbyGentry · 03/09/2013 13:18

Love it x

Callmedreckly · 03/09/2013 13:24

I like it a lot.

TheContrastofWhiteonWhite · 03/09/2013 14:06

I know a Leon, it's nice. However, there are a million Leo's around my area, so poor Leon does get his name mixed up quite frequently.

burberryqueen · 03/09/2013 14:08

great name, kind of classic and not over-used

Bowlersarm · 03/09/2013 14:11

I'm not very keen, but for some reason I really like Leo. I'm not sure why I don't like one , but do the other as there is only one letters difference.

At least it is rare. (A good thing!)

Beeyump · 03/09/2013 14:42

I really don't like it. (Feels so rude yet freeing to say that!)

squoosh · 03/09/2013 15:42

I think it's just ok, seems to have suddenly come out of nowhere to be super trendy though.

Madratlady · 03/09/2013 17:54

Beeyump fair enough, it won't appeal to everyone anyway, it's not rude to express an opinion!

I liked it so much I named my son Leon! He's now 10 months and I've only ever heard of one other which is nice.

Itsmymove · 03/09/2013 21:57

I also drive a Seat Leon Smile

bootsycollins · 03/09/2013 22:02

MrsMongoose · 04/09/2013 01:14

cafecito · 04/09/2013 01:18

I like it

Trumpton · 04/09/2013 01:24

Love it . I have a fab 18year old nephew and an equally fab great great nephew 3 years old both called Leon . A name that suits any age .

pol2012 · 04/09/2013 01:27

It's my husbands name. You would be surprised how often he has to spell it for people.
He gets called Lee, Leo and even Liam!

Littlecherublegs · 04/09/2013 13:14

Love love love it!!!!

looki · 04/09/2013 22:09

Love it, think its a great name, strong and I'd never have considered it a supertrendy name. Its quite a classic in my eyes! I know and have heard of a couple of people named Leon because their father's name is/was Noel.

Also I remember reading at one time that Brad Pitt was going to call his youngest son Leon but changed to Knox in the end (something or other to do with liking the letter x in his boy's names).

Strokethefurrywall · 04/09/2013 22:20

Love it, ex-boyfriend/dear friend called Leon and he's a lovely guy so will always have positive conotations for me.

He's the only one I know as well so seems to fit all ages without being over popular.
