What do you think about the name Jamie for a boy? I'm not keen on the name James.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Love It, I have one he is lovely :)

thefirstmrsrochester · 30/08/2013 13:11

I also have a Jamie. He is lovely too.

ThatsHandy · 30/08/2013 14:43

My Jamie will be here in 5 weeks Smile

Bowlersarm · 30/08/2013 14:45

Yes I like it too.

sonlypuppyfat · 30/08/2013 14:52

I don't like shortened names or nicknames My DCs have short names that end in n. I think ie or y ending names on children are cute but silly on a grown man. The pub landlord once said its James, Jim even Jimbo but never Jamie.

AuntyPippaAndUncleHarry · 30/08/2013 15:04

I don't want to cause any offence. You wouldn't be asking unless you had some doubts so I say my comment in the spirit of giving an honest opinion not to be venomous. I am afraid I'm one of those people who thinks it is odd to name your child a nickname rather than a recognised name. All these Harry/Jake/Jamie/Freddie/Lottie names IMO will cause the child problems as people will assume a Jamie is a James, a Jake a Jacob etc. James is a great name, easy to pronounce, widely recognised, strong, masculine, classic but not dated. Jamie is a lovely nickname for a young child. In your shoes I would go for James and call him Jamie at home.

sleepingbeautiful · 30/08/2013 18:02

I like it. Makes me think of a hunky Scottish gamekeeper :D
I'm normally not a short-form for legal name person, but there's a few exceptions that work for me. Jamie is one of them. I feel the same about Max and Alec.

Frontdoorstep · 30/08/2013 18:19

I like Jamie for a name but I know a few females called Jamie so I tend to associate it as a girls name these days.

StrangeGlue · 30/08/2013 18:32

Great! My bd is technically James but has never ever been called it he's always been Jamie. He works in v serious job now too. Tis fab name.

OPeaches · 30/08/2013 18:58

I have a Jamie, so it's definitely a great name. Grin
I think it's a name in its own right now, not necessarily thought of as a nn for James.

Alisvolatpropiis · 30/08/2013 19:45

It's a bit dated.

Lovemynailstoday · 30/08/2013 19:50

I love it 'cos I've got one. Lengthy x post on this in recent past if you search.

Clargo55 · 30/08/2013 19:51

My younger brother is called Jamie, he gets called James all the time and he hates it. He also gets called Jam-eee, he regularly expresses the wish that he was named something else.

However I think it's nice and kids can find anything to tease each other about.

dimdommilpot · 30/08/2013 21:22

OH is Jamie. He is 33 and very much a mans man. The name is not girly at all IMO.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 31/08/2013 03:51

great name

MusicalEndorphins · 31/08/2013 04:22

I love it for a nick name for James.
My cousin James has always been called Jamie, he is a grown man now. They intended on calling him Jamie from the get-go and nobody ever calls him James.

Orangeboat · 31/08/2013 07:36

Love James and Jamie

I know a father/son both called James. Father goes by Jamie (late 40s) and son (24) goes by Jim and has done from a very young age!

Tillyandjamie · 31/08/2013 14:35

I have a DS Jamie! Although I always call him Jim!

MyThumbsHaveGoneWeird · 01/09/2013 00:03

I've never really liked the sound of it. Think its the ee sound at the end mainly. But nothing wrong with it. I know a lot in their 30s and one who is two.

MyThumbsHaveGoneWeird · 01/09/2013 00:04

Much prefer Jim.

willyoulistentome · 01/09/2013 00:08

My db is a Jamie. My Scottish grandparents were horrified that he would be called Jamie and not James. They said Jamie was for the 'servants' (Not that they had any)

popocatepetl · 01/09/2013 20:02

I think that although you don't get many adult men with -ee names at the moment, by the time Jamie/Freddie/Alfie/Charlie have grown up, it will just be normal (in the same way all men my age are called Chris, Steve or Andrew) so I wouldn't let that put you off.
