I think it's a cute name I think it's quite a popular mumsnet name but I haven't met any in real life and I see quite a lot of babies

Go for it

Zoe900 · 29/08/2013 21:00

it seems to be one of those trendy names, like Stanley, although Stanley is nicer. flat cap name. silly.

MrsCampbellBlack · 29/08/2013 21:02

I have an Arthur - only know one other. I think its a bit more regal than Stanley though Wink

jinglebellmel · 29/08/2013 21:02

Okay so split reaction so far! Thanks both

I love it. I've met one or two recently, but just enough that it isn't getting a Hmm reaction as a very old or unused name.

BellaVida · 29/08/2013 21:06

Love it! Very strong name.

ChesterCake · 29/08/2013 21:07

It depends where you live I think, I live in Bath and know of 6 Arthur's ages 2 and under. It's a really lovely name tho I would use it myself

justaweeone · 29/08/2013 21:07

I know an Arthur and he had a Stanley for a brother.
Both great kids

justaweeone · 29/08/2013 22:37

Sorry HAS not HAD

GnomieGrace · 29/08/2013 23:34

My sister has rescued an elderley Jack Russel Terrier called Arthur and it is the nastiest dog I have ever met so I would say no, but if I'd never met my sister's dog I would say yes! Lol that probably doesn't help much sorry!

Alisvolatpropiis · 29/08/2013 23:36

I love it. It was my grandfathers name, he was a such a lovely name I can't help but love the name.

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 29/08/2013 23:37

I love it. My neighbour has an 8 year old called it. He's lovely, not that that is relevant I suppose. But I do love it.

sonlypuppyfat · 29/08/2013 23:39

I've said this on here before but I went to school with an Arthur and I know it was a long time ago but his life was made a misery

Charlottehere · 29/08/2013 23:39

Love it.

ClartyCarol · 29/08/2013 23:41

Sorry to be harsh but I think it's one if the more awful old man names there is.

Goes with Cedric and Alf in my book.

edam · 29/08/2013 23:43

I like it. Strong, heroic, very English in a good way.

Doodledumdums · 29/08/2013 23:43

I have an Arthur! Mostly called Artie though.

Consequently, I love it! My Arthur is 8mo, and I have had a mixed bunch of reactions. Ranging from people being lovely, to people being downright rude!

Plus3 · 29/08/2013 23:46

Another like - my grandfather's name. I would also probably shorten it to Art/Artie

sonlypuppyfat · 29/08/2013 23:46

I'm with you clarty can you imagine in your youth meeting a gorgous guy and his name was ..... Arthur!

ThisIsMummyPig · 29/08/2013 23:48

I know one - was a bit Hmm to start with, but it belongs to a lovely little boy, so I don't notice it now

aturtlenamedmack · 29/08/2013 23:50

Ds has it as a middle name, it was nearly his first name but we changed our mind last min.
Ds is nearly 2 and I don't like it now, wish it wasn't in there at all but the reason for that is that it doesn't have any meaning for me and I wish I'd stuck with family names.
It is cute though and there are a lot of cute nickname possibilities.

Doodledumdums · 29/08/2013 23:50

My Artie is SUPER gorgeous! Grin

ShadowSummer · 29/08/2013 23:53

I quite like it. It's been getting more popular over the last few years going by the baby name stats.

I've met one little Arthur (about 2 yrs old). Next youngest one I've met would be in his mid-30's.

ClartyCarol · 29/08/2013 23:58

It also puts me in mind of Pauline Fowler droning on about Aaaarfah.
