Just wondering what people think x

I can't think of Deanna Durbin (second-rate Judy Garland is a bit unfair) without seeing Mickey Rooney and hearing 'Why, let's do the show right here!'

OP, if you like old-fashioned, what about Phyllis or Dulcie or Joan or Merle or Dorrit or Barbara?

OlympicSleepingChampion · 28/08/2013 21:19

Yes ok, I am being unfair with the references to Judy Garland. But regardless I really don't like the name. I would HATE being called Deanna and wouldn't inflict it on a DD, sorry. It sounds a bit like you wanted a boy called Dean but got a girl instead....

Rhubarbgarden · 28/08/2013 21:23

Nick Cave. Agree with Puffykins that the lyrics would make me think twice.

BearsLikeMarmalade · 28/08/2013 21:31

Its my name and although I did get a bit tired with people mispronouncing it when I was little (its de-anna), it was good that no-one else in the class had the same name, and now I really like it. Rarely get any references to faded movie stars or Star Trek, and it would be hard to confuse me with a country & western singer Grin. My mum had the name saved up for years before she had me, so I was very definitely not meant to be a Dean!

If you like it use it.

OlympicSleepingChampion · 28/08/2013 21:47

Oh don't name change Bears we all have opinions on names. I have read some shockers about mine which is a middle class standard. And it would be very boring if we all liked the same thing. What matters most is why your DPs called you what they did and why you want to use a name for your DC. That should always matter more than what a load of randoms on website have to say.

Onesleeptillwembley · 28/08/2013 22:24

Like I said, not my taste, but ok. I will say though, definitely not the female version of Dean. Pronounced totally differently. but still wanders off singing stand by your man.

I do think it will cause a lifetime of having to correct people. I have a fairly distant relative with this name and she is Dean-na.

GrandstandingBlueTit · 29/08/2013 10:50

Eek, Olympic, I don't think Bears wants to change her actual name. Just her MN user name as a result of outing herself...!

EnjoyEverySandwich · 29/08/2013 13:44

Can't see anything wrong with the name. I only associate it with Deanna Durbin, so it says old-school Hollywood glamour to me - similar to Ava.

It is similar to the French pronunciation of Diana.

I like it. It makes me think of Deanna Durbin (?sp.) who was very glamorous

The only thing is, people might pronounce it "Deena"

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 29/08/2013 14:09

Deanna Durbin

I know a child called this, she was named after her father Dean. Dislike it, sorry.

CoolStoryBro · 30/08/2013 00:30

I live in the US and there is no way in Hell I would ever encourage anyone to call their child Deanna. Or Dina Or Danae. Unless you want them to be a real estate agent.

CoolStoryBro · 30/08/2013 00:31

Not that there's anything wrong with real estate agents, but I hope you gwim!!!

valiumredhead · 30/08/2013 01:01
