Opinions on these names please?

Hi all. We are having a baby girl (very soon) and we want a name that is neither really common where she will be one of 6 in her class nor a name that is too strange/bullying fodder, if that makes sense. We aren't posh, upper middle class or rich, so don't want a name that sounds like we are trying to be either :)

So far our shortlist is..

-Matilda
-Elodie
-Sophia
-Eloise
-Ariya
-Felicity

None have any real "connection" ie not grandma's name etc. Just names we like.

Any thoughts / other suggestions?

Love Matilda as name of my 7 year old DD.

Sophia is a bit too popular. Elodie becoming more so; would avoid both if you're looking for something unique.

Like Eloise.

Also Ariya is interesting but I think most people will hear 'Maria' when it's said and that may mean a lifetime of correcting people...

I like matilda and felicity. good solid names which are common enough that they arent unusual but arent everywhere.

I love Matilda - but sadly it always get shortened to Milly, Tilly or Tilda - which are all 'ok', but not as nice.

I love Eloise - but don't like Lou or Ellie (well, Ellie is OK, but just a bit top10)

I love Felicity - I even like Fliss or Flick.

I don't like Sophia & really dislike Ariya.

Love Felicity, Sophia is nice but popular, Matilda's OK, not keen on the others myself, although I do like Aria.

Matilda isn't favourite but very common where I am, there are 4 in DS' nursery class!

Matilda (Tilly) and Sophia are v.popular in these parts but not bad names.

I like Eloise but really dislike Elodie and Felicity for some reason.

Ariya I think personally sounds a bit too "try hard" and its also the name of a very crappy village on the book i'm currently reading :o

My goldfish was called Eloise not named after the Damned song, oh no
Tis a lovely name and Ellie is a lovely nn

my tuppence worth:

-Matilda 4 but prefer tilly
-Elodie 2
-Sophia 3
-Eloise 1
-Ariya 5
-Felicity 6 prefer Hope

Also like Elise and Alisa and Lydia

Chipping -- my DD gets called Matilda or Tilda or Tildy. Never Tilly.

I love Tilda too ESP because Tilda Swinton is so darn cool!

It is a much more popular name but luckily she's only one in her school. For now!

Wow, thanks guys! I just can't find a name that I love so much that I have no niggling doubts about..

Matilda is my favourite, although I am worried it will be shortened to "Mattie" which I think sounds awful. I don't mind "Tilly" but I know you can't have a say over nicknames.

Eloise I love but again I don't like "Ellie" or "Elle"

Elodie just sounds so lovely to me but I mentioned it to my mum and she thinks it means a lifetime of our child saying "no, it's Elodie NOT Melody" :)

Ariya me and DP both love but it's pronounced AR-ee-a and I forsee people pronouncing it as "A-REE-a" which I don't like.

So hard....

You could use Aria instad? I'd assume Ariya was pronounced ArEEya.

If she introduces herself as Tilly she will probably be called that, mostly.

Arianna? Ariella? Adelene?

I don't think Melody is so common a name that people would mishear.

Yes, you're right Waffly, Aria may well stop the pronunciation confusion. Although I admit we heard it on a TV series, which is a bit trashy, but hopefully not so common that everyone would know! :)

PintoBean, I feel like Amelie is too common, although a lovely name. Eloise I do love though!

I also don't like Ariya, it doesn't really seem to fit with the other names you like.

They are all nice names except Ariya. Not keen on that. I think I like Elodie best and Eloise second.

How about Cara, Cassandra (purely because I love Cassie) or Carys?

Cara and Carys can't really be shortened and I don't think any of the 3 are top 50 and they're certainly not "unique" names.
