We are expecting a beautiful baby girl and we have chosen Rylee Rayne as first and middle name..... let me know what you think as we have had some negative feedback from family members.... They say that she will always been explaining how to spell her name because it is spelled funny... My name is Brittany, a very common name and I spent my life explaining how to spell my name because of the different variations. I didnt think this was a big deal... but apparently others do... what do you think?

Sorry I think it's awful and the 'different' spelling just makes it worse. Fwiw I don't think Brittany is a particularly common name so not a great argument against the spelling issue. Are you in America?

hawkmcqueen · 24/08/2013 22:34

The beauty of this is exactly the fact that us stuffy lot don't particularly like it, variety is the spice of life! If everyone ended up with a mumsnet approved name, we would all be running around wearing Boden sweaters and every single child's 'uniform' would include a mini micro scooter! Names allow us to differentiate individuals in a burgeoning population which requires name diversity. Choose what is right for your family and your daughter.

Writerwannabe83 · 25/08/2013 11:54

Definitely dislike, sorry Sad

Riley is a boys name in my eyes and I don't even like it for a boy's name.

Rylee Rayne just sounds a bit silly and as someone else has said, I doubt she will thank you for it. X

TheBleedinObvious · 26/08/2013 05:37

I prefer Rylee Jane.

I think Rylee Rayne is a bit too much. Too rhymey and I think it is quite nice to have a more conventional middle name if the first name is unusual.

KateCroydon · 26/08/2013 14:06

Hawkmcqueen has a point. Mumsnet will, more or less, tell you what middle-class, university educated British women in their thirties think of a name (yes, yes, I know I'm generalising but I'll be buggered if that's not the core demographic). They/we will HATE Rylee Rayne but like Tabitha Harriet. Other people will think differently and there's no wrong or right to it. The only thing I would say is that if you give a kid a very, ahem, 'distinctive' name it's always a good idea to give them something boring too - so chuck in a second middle name of Lucy or somesuch and it might help her get a job in twenty-odd years.

OverTheFieldsAndFarAway · 26/08/2013 14:11

I laughed. Sorry but both names are awful.

Sadie204 · 26/08/2013 15:40

I personally love the name Riley (spelt this way) but I see it as a boys name. DD2 would have been named it if she had been a boy. Not too sure about the alliteration either, not keen on rhymey names. If you and OH have your hearts set on it though, I suggest you use it no matter what anyone else says. Might find that you regret it in a few years time!

Phineyj · 26/08/2013 16:09

It's a brilliant name for a country singer!

Personally, I hate 'Tabitha Harriet' - sounds like a Jilly Cooper character Grin

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 26/08/2013 17:32

Princess Diana's step-mum was Raine

I quite like it, spelled like that

But I don't like Riley/Rylee. Sorry - I think it's the fact it sounds like a surname

Kate

I hate Tabitha - sorry

Viviennemary · 26/08/2013 17:39

I don't like the names at all. But I'm not very keen on Tabitha either.

BuggedByJake · 26/08/2013 17:44

Don't like it at all. It sounds made up & very common...sorry.

exoticfruits · 26/08/2013 17:54

I'm not surprised you have had negative comments from family!

MrsApplepants · 26/08/2013 17:55

Sorry, I think it's dreadful. It sounds really common.

I personally don't like it but each to their own.

I think an alliterative first/middle name seem weird but that's a personal opinion so don't be offended.

If you like Rylee but don't want it to be alliterative then perhaps you could go for Riley Lorraine.

I hope you find a name you like and sod what others think though :)

almapudden · 26/08/2013 18:23

It screams "chav" to me. That may not bother you, in which case go for it. But it is awful.

Brittany and Britney are at least two existing versions of (more or less) the same name. Rylee is made up.

I like alliterative names but for me it would need to be Riley Rain (or Raine).

Moochie01 · 26/08/2013 20:00

It really is dreadful, sorry.

EnjoyEverySandwich · 26/08/2013 20:49

Well ... Brittany is the correct spelling (in English) of the region in France. Britney (although it may have a completely different origin for all I know) looks like an ignorant misspelling of the same.

austenozzy · 26/08/2013 21:30

Leaving aside like/dislike (plenty of forthright opinion on that already!), the poor kid would be forever telling people how to spell her name.

If she works in any job where she has to say it over the phone, she'll have the same conversation many times a day, with some people saying "are you sure?" which will annoy her, or she'll have to repeat it time and again to the same person. Don't do that to your poor child!

LustyBusty · 26/08/2013 22:29

Going on what a fee other posters have said, how about "Rylie Jayne"? Cos that eg on the phone would be "Rylie, like Kylie, Jayne with a y" which isn't too bad. I have a common long first name, with two incredibly common abbreviations and a common surname with two spellings, so I'm always (not really names) "Lizzy-with-a-y, Clarke-with-an-e", you get used to it.
