Its me again. I think that we are getting there thing of a name for this baby and two current favourites are Montgomery (Monty) and Rupert.
Thoughts and suggestions please!

But squoosh Rupert Penry Jones is phwoar worthy Grin

yummymumtobe · 23/08/2013 13:32

Don't use Rupert unless you are very middle class and he will go to a private school. Otherwise it just sounds aspirational. It has to go with your names too. When a couple called Kelly and Gary have a child called Rupert it is a bit silly!

Egusta · 23/08/2013 13:32

Like both. Monty is cute though for a little boy.

Bowlersarm · 23/08/2013 13:36

yummymumtobe what is wrong about having aspirations?

onlysettleforbutterflies · 23/08/2013 13:41

Monty

yummymumtobe · 23/08/2013 13:43

Nothing wrong with having aspirations at all. It can just sound a bit try hard and hyacinth bucket if you give your child a name that doesnt fit their background at all. Similarly, if you are quite posh you wouldn't call your child Kai or Jayden as that would sound weird too. Sorry if this offends anyone!

Treadmillmom · 23/08/2013 13:44

Seriously, neither, I implore you, revisit your choices.

I haven't posted for over a year and went to the trouble of resetting my password just to beg you not to do it!

squoosh · 23/08/2013 13:45

Rupert Penry Jones is indeed phwoar worthy, but that's despite his name. Imagine you were going out with him (work with me here people)and calling out to him on a busy street. I'd be a bit 'Oi, Ru.......R......ummm, Rup............R....................HOT BOYFRIEND OF MINE, GET OVER HERE'!

(I'm sure RPJ would never go out with anyone who shouts 'Oi' so I think I'm worrying unnecessarily).

RoastedCouchPotatoes · 23/08/2013 13:49

I personally don't like Rupert (and love Monty) but putting that aside (if you live in an area where he won't potentially be bullied, for example) I think Montgomery Rupert Ivan flows better (I love Ivan!).

Bowlersarm · 23/08/2013 13:51

Rupert Penry Jones would have no trouble fitting into my life. And I would have no trouble saying his name at every opportunity (think Dervla might have something to say though)

yummymumtobe · 23/08/2013 13:52

By the way, I love both names and would use either! Nothing wrong with them at all provided you are from a background and live in an environment where it wouldn't be odd. Lots of ruperts, hugos, Henry's in our local park so I wouldn't avoid it.

mootime · 23/08/2013 20:01

Thanks for the comments. I don't think he's likely to be picked in for a name. We live in a "naice" bit of London and if we scrape enough together will probably go private at secondary.
I think it may now be a case of see what he looks like. Although its still a way off so I something else may come up.
Ivan is a family name, but I'm not keen on it as a first name.

Montgomery. Not Rupert, please.

MrsDavidBowie · 23/08/2013 20:40

They are both shocking.
But not as bad as Cuthy.

Biscuitsneeded · 24/08/2013 16:30

Both far too posh for me. But horses for courses!

There are 2 Ruperts in my DC's class, so I'm afraid it's getting popular:))
Monty is associated with Monty Pyton for me

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 28/08/2013 17:56

I am sorry. I dislike Monty

Rupert is better, although they are both rather "posh" for my taste.

I suspect you wouldn't like the kinds of name I like either, though!

I wonder if you'd consider these

Theo
Huw
Hugo
Mackenzie/Mack
Christian
Marcus

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 28/08/2013 17:57

I like Ivan

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 28/08/2013 17:58

I just would worry a bit about a child who "looked like" a Monty...

jkklpu · 28/08/2013 23:02

neither, sorry
Uncle Monty
and what if poor Rupert can't say his 'r's?

OwlCat · 28/08/2013 23:10

I like Monty, wish that I'd used it. I have a distant relative called Monty who is now in his sixties and not at all posh, so I've never thought of it that way.

ZeroTolerance · 28/08/2013 23:11

Rupert is wet.

Monty is a bit trendy but marginally preferable.

Devora · 28/08/2013 23:27

Both too posh for me, I'm afraid. But I do rather like Ivan.

Kaekae · 30/08/2013 00:21

Love Monty would be on my shortlist is I were to have another boy. Dislike Rupert.
