Penelope and Peter?

Baby number 2 is due in six weeks.

Top of our list for girls is Penelope, and it was our girls name for DS1 three years ago, but a kardashian has used it and now I'm having doubts...

Peter is top of our boys list but do we really want a Baby Peter?

I've put our top 3 alternatives below.... Well to be fair I haven't persuaded DH on Rex or Daphne yet, but there's still six weeks Grin We want a name that's not too popular but not trying too hard to be different.

I dithered over DS1's name and although it suits him, I've never been totally convinced. I think I'm a name commitment-phobe!

Help please!

Penelope
Leonora
Blythe
Daphne

Peter
Laurence
Rex
Christopher

By the way there's only one baby, we just don't know if it's a boy or girl.

Love Peter, it was on our short list for dtwins.

I know a 3yr old Penelope known as Penny which is quite nice.
I also like Laurence. DS1 has one is his class nn Laurie.

I think both Penelope and Peter are lovely, and if you go on to have more children, then Penny and Peter make a good 'sibset'

If you're worried about penis-related teasing, the Christopher would be my second choice boys name.

Love Peter (slight bias as have one), Penelope nice as long as you are happy with Pen (yes I know someone I have to call Pen) as nn or Penny.

Other names, I (too late for my DSs) love Soren for a boy.

Dislike Rex, makes me think of a very old man or a grumpy cat. Blythe lovely, Daphne nice except my mum has a Daphne friend nn Daffers which I loathe. Personally I think Leonora an ugly written name.

All the best for the new arrival!

I like Penelope, Daphne, Peter & Christopher best

ZolaBuddleia · 23/08/2013 11:29

Penelope - don't like it
Leonora - OK
Blythe - lovely
Daphne - makes me think of old ladies with half moon glasses

Peter - lovely
Laurence - lovely
Rex - lovely
Christopher - boring, only like Kit

NoComet · 23/08/2013 11:39

Grin Zola, Christopher was my very boring Ex. Very kind, very sweet and very boring.

Penny, Blythe, both lovely

Peter is great, Lawrence is OK touch posh in a dull way.

Rex always makes a T. rex or a very loud American jump to mind.

BackforGood · 23/08/2013 12:08

Penelope - like it
Leonora - don't like it (no reason Grin just not my taste)
Blythe - really, really don't like it, and if I saw it written down I'd have assumed it was a boy
Daphne - not keen but better than 2 + 3

Peter - love it, real classic, ageless name, of which there are a couple in every generation , everyone's heard of it, yet it's never highly used. Really, really like it.
Laurence - not that keen, but it's ok
Rex - don't like it, unless it's for a dog
Christopher - OK

HTH Grin only the opinions of a random stranger on the internet, not reasons I can justify!

Minty82 · 23/08/2013 12:16

Ooh, is your DH persuadable on Blythe? I'm so jealous, I absolutely love it, and DH thinks it's a joke name.
Not a huge fan of either Penelope or Peter myself, but that's personal taste - no reason I can think of why you shouldn't use them if they're top of your list. But Blythe is so much nicer! I like Christopher too.

Nameagain · 23/08/2013 12:22

Thanks! Random thoughts of strangers is kind of the point Grin rather than the muttered politeness from friends and family after you've accidentally named your child after a serial killer...

Sounds like Penelope is still front runner, I like the nns Penny or Nel so should be ok there.

Also like the nns for Laurence, in fact would be top of the list if not for the confusing spelling.

I like Kit for Christopher (better than Chris) but DH and I both love the nn Chip, though I'm aware that everyone else hates it, so don't think we'd go there.

Peter is coming our well, which is good, though maybe naively I don't see the link with penis teasing Scaveloa. Is that because it starts with 'Pe'? There's a Peter at work who's hilariously known as Peter-phile (by one person). Stuff like that doesn't put me off massively as I think you can find teasing in any name if you look hard enough...

Sounds like DH might have a point about Rex and Daphne - not too popular here either!

Penelope is dreadful , my dad wanted this for me . Luckily mum put her foot down

That's good to know NameAgain, and exactly what I thought the point of asking on the internet is, but you'd be amazed how many posters take offence when you don't like their ideas Wink
