Re-thinking our choices... should we go for different names?

DH and I have, for the most part, settled on calling our twin girls Philippa Winter and Vivienne Gray (Pip/Pippa and Vivi for short), but with our induction date looming less than 2 weeks away, I'm getting cold feet.

I really do love the classics (Alexandra, Elizabeth, etc), but we avoided them because our original criteria was to have something out of (or at the higher end of) the top 100--wanted something classic and interesting that wouldn't date quickly. I'm just not sure we've accomplished that with the names we've got!

I suppose I'm looking for either reassurance about what we've got or inspiration for something different. Any suggestions (even out-of-the-box ones) are really welcome. Names like Primrose, Seren, Zara and Persis have been on our list at some point or another, so I'm open to ideas!

They are lovely names :)

You are over thinking this.

Go back and think about why you liked and chose them in the first place.

All the best with your twin girls Flowers

I also prefer Phillipa (going against most other opinions on here) Wink

But there is nothing wrong with Vivienne.

noodlebum · 22/08/2013 12:17

I like both Vivienne and Phillipa (Vivienne a tiny bit more though), and also Primrose and Zara from your other list Smile

Oona is nice, too!

KateCroydon · 22/08/2013 19:44

Your original choices are good - keep them. Please don't call your child Cassandra - awful name that means someone who prophesises misfortune and is not believed. Up there with Jonah as a bad idea.

I think both names are lovely but I do prefer Vivienne of the two. My other suggestion would be Gabrielle or Gabriella

Vivienne Gray and Gabrielle Winter

or maybe

Vivienne (Vivi) Gray and Anastasia (Tasia) Winter?

BlueStarsAtNight · 22/08/2013 21:09

I love Vivienne Gray and like Philippa Winter, but agree with some that Philippa sounds less glamorous than Vivienne.
How about Adelaide Winter? Also love Genevieve Winter. I think Alexandra Winter sounds really good with Vivienne, and probably 'goes' better than Philippa does.

I don't like Persis at all, and I like Zara but don't think it is as special as Vivienne.

Linguaphile · 22/08/2013 23:15

So, is something like Penelope more in line with Vivienne? I quite like the nn Penny...

I know it's not the same name, but I hear Vivienne and just think of Vivian from the young ones.

soontobeslendergirl · 22/08/2013 23:26

Philippa is a nice name, I don't like Penelope, it doesn't sound as elegant as Vivienne, Philippa is better.

what about Theadora, Francesca, Matilda, Hermione, Meredith, Anneliese

JumpingJackSprat · 22/08/2013 23:29

I like felicity and vivienne. personally pippa/phillipa is what i would class as a horsy name, having been into horses growing up i knew a few so the connection has stuck for me. the felicity i knew was called fliss or flick as a nickname

brightnearly · 23/08/2013 08:36

Alice Winter? Clarissa Winter? Oona Winter?

JazzAnnNonMouse · 24/08/2013 10:06

Personally I really like Phillipa, Vivienne is ok but reminds me of the young ones!

Love the middle names and think they sound great with the names. Why not have unusual middle names!!

Persis I just read as penis (sorry!) and Cassandra makes me think of only fools and horses casaaaaandra

I think the names you chose on the first place are lovely and it's normal to have a last minute wobble.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 24/08/2013 10:20

I also don't think of Vivienne as being glamorous or highflying - sorry. It makes me think of old women that have had a hard life called viv. Or the prostitute friend in pretty women - I think she was called Vivienne.

LustyBusty · 25/08/2013 16:16

Personally, I love both your suggestions. I prefer the name Phillippa to Vivienne, but I agree that Vivienne and Alexandra go better together... Good luck with the babies!!

riskit4abiskit · 25/08/2013 16:20

I love your names they sound windswept and romantic!

CogDat · 25/08/2013 17:18

Love Felicity Winter and Vivienne Gray!
