Mid-Century Names

DS is called a traditional name but very uncommon now. To say what it is would be to out me and it was in the 900s on the recent ONS list. It was more in use (though hardly very common) in the 40, 50s & 60s.

Would love to get similar ideas for DC2 (if it happens) ie mid-century but not used that often these days - definitely outside top 100.

I like for boys:

Teddy / Theodore - but am ruling out as too common
Peter

And for girls:
Margot
Gilda
Constance (likely to be a middle name)
Stella (too common now)

Gideon

Gabriel

Davina
Diana
Catriona
Letitia

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 15/08/2013 21:32

Now on list:
Daphne
Christopher
Penelope (nn Penny)

I love Michael and Gina but can't use.

I should have said more mid-century Broadway or Hollywood than Mallory Towers - like Audrey, Elizabeth, Marilyn ... rather than the more common names like John and Judith.

X-post
Adding Sadie and Gabriel

Love love love Diana and I have been pitching it to everyone who has a girl to make a comeback. I would love to use it but DH very firmly in the no camp.

It's such a beautiful name with a great meaning - it has to make a comeback.

Almost all the men I know who were born between 1957 and 1959 are called either Stephen or David. OH is Stephen David..

Thinking of boys I was at school with, Douglas, Derek, Stephen(!) Tandy, Alan, David

Girls mainly Julie! Sandra, Hilary, Giselle ( mum was a ballet fan, so not typical) , Theresa ( only one in the school), Maggie/Margaret , Judith, Mary, Alison

all names you rarely here now

Love, love, love Peter!

Definitely think Gary is due for a revival.

I'd also like to throw in Kevin and Tracy for discussion purposes.

itsBeer0cl0ck · 16/08/2013 20:01

ha ha!

I like the name Howie! and I like Robert. My boys list has howard and Robert on it. I think it had Marcus (but not mark) on it too. I don't like Gary but I don't see how it's so different from Harry really! and I like Jason, prefer it to the modern Mason which I hear about, so I like the names on this thread. They make a change.
