Emily or Emma?

Just that really. I realise that Emily is more popular but it is such a pretty name. Would the popularity put you off? Thanks.

Yes, the popularity would put me off, although it is a lovely name. I really like Emma though.

ilovepowerhoop · 14/08/2013 08:25

I have an Emma and there are 2 Emily's in her class and an Emilie in ds's class too

cece · 14/08/2013 08:27

Emma - more solid, still pretty but less frilly.

Bert2e · 14/08/2013 08:30

Emma for me too - Emily is too popular!

ConcreteElephant · 14/08/2013 20:05

Emma, but I'm biased :)

Same reasons as Cece gives really. Emily is such a pretty name but more girly in my view than Emma, which isn't so much to my taste.

BlueStarsAtNight · 14/08/2013 20:10

Emma by a mile! I'm not keen on Emily, it makes me think of quite a dull child, but I think Emma is gorgeous!

ThingsThatGoHumpInTheNight · 14/08/2013 20:33

Emma....every Emily I've met has been spoilt and prissy

GeraldineAubergine · 14/08/2013 20:34

My names emma. I like it :)

StrawberrytallCAKE · 14/08/2013 20:35

Spoilt, prissy and dull......wowee thanks vipers.

Jamdoughnutfiend · 14/08/2013 20:36

Emma = classic
Emily = whinger
IMO only

DontCallMeDaughter · 14/08/2013 20:38

My dd is an Emily... She's not prissy nor is she dull... Spoilt? Maybe...!

We don't know any other Emilys so we were quite surprised to see it at number 4 on the mumsnet list today... I prefer it to Emma but each to their own.

ThingsThatGoHumpInTheNight · 14/08/2013 20:55

Ha! I've earned my viper stripes at last Grin Sorry, didn't mean to offend, just my experience. Probably because I am the same age as a lot of Emily's...Emmas are generally older and more comfortable in their own skin mad chilled out...most likely due to being and eighties baby (and the Emily who was a total BITCH at college) ...

BigBongTheory · 14/08/2013 20:58

Emma. It's a classic.

DontCallMeDaughter · 14/08/2013 21:00

Heh. No offence taken... Well not much Grin she was in a right mood tonight so maybe you are right!!!

MonstersDontCry · 14/08/2013 21:02

I love both. Smile

Saffyz · 14/08/2013 21:02

Emily. It's a more flowing and friendly name. Emma is more unusual, but also more dull and over-serious.

LazyMonkeyButler · 14/08/2013 21:05

It doesn't matter - I'm an Emma & I get called Emily all the time. Likewise, my colleague Emily gets called Emma.

Just choose whichever you prefer Grin.

Katydid02 · 14/08/2013 21:06

Emma. The most unpleasant person I ever met was called Emily, thankfully I've not seen her for over 10 years. There you go, one very biased opinion. I know two lovely people called Emma :)

Layl77 · 14/08/2013 21:53

Emma is beautiful and underused

Middy75 · 15/08/2013 08:38

I have an Emma too, think its still a very pretty girls name but also a good solid adults name when she's a high flying business exec :-)

Biscuitsneeded · 15/08/2013 18:06

Emma, by a mile. Emilys all over the place!

sparklingstars · 15/08/2013 20:43

Emma gets my vote as well, I never did like the name Emily as it reminds me of the girl on Bagpuss.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 15/08/2013 20:45

I don't like Emily. Emma is OK but not sure of it as an adult name. I know an Emme though and like that

sleepingbeautiful · 15/08/2013 22:19

They are both classic, but I much prefer Emma.

IMO:
Emma is lady-like and stronger.
Emily is girl-like and a bit wet.

NadiaWadia · 16/08/2013 03:54

Emily is prettier. Emma is nice, but a bit on the bland side?
