Not too common.and not old fashioned but is it a good one to go with George (brother).

Thoughts please :)

George and Abbie go well together. I'm not keen on Abbie as a given name though I'm afraid- have you considered Abigail with Abbie as NN?

Saffyz · 11/08/2013 23:09

It's a lovely nickname for Abigail.

StormBird · 11/08/2013 23:14

A.no no on the abigail front as my name in rl.is gail! It's more dh's preference and I'm here trying to convince myself. I don't seem to like anything at all ever. Its starting to annoy me slightly.

If your name is Gail I would avoid Abbie, sorry- too much 'this is Abbie and I'm Gail, haha' and potential for irritating comments.
How about Alison or Alexandra with Allie as NN?

mynameisslimshady · 11/08/2013 23:36

I have an Abbie I obviously think its a lovely name, not overly used but not outlandish and weird either, its a bit of a pain with having to spell it every time though, she gets Abby, Abbey and Abbi more than Abbie.

If you aren't keen and you don't love it then I would say don't use it though. Ime you can't talk yourself into loving a name, its either right or it isn't.

formicadinosaur · 12/08/2013 03:22

I don't know why but I've always strongly disliked the name sorry. Like Alice or Tess or Lottie with George

formicadinosaur · 12/08/2013 03:46

Annie, Bonnie, Bessie, Libby, ruby, hallie, Josie, Maddie, Mary, Tessie, Bea

Katie and George is my fave combo.

Last thoughts!!

Belle, Bibi,

Abigail

Abbie is horrid.

AHandfulOfDust · 12/08/2013 04:06

I say that as a 40 year old Abigail.

Abbie???

It's neither here nor there.

AHandfulOfDust · 12/08/2013 04:07

Don't bastardise it.

formicadinosaur · 12/08/2013 07:18

Emily is nicer

Abigail is nice.

Abbie/Abby isn't and it also reminds me of an abbey (Westminster etc).

cavell · 12/08/2013 08:24

I have a friend with an Abbie. People always seem to assume that is is just a short form of Abigail.

Not too keen on the name, sorry. If you are not too sure, then my advice is to keep thinking and you'll get there in the end. DD2 was nameless for a week whilst we decided what to choose, but I really like the name we finally chose.

You're not floating my boat ladies. I am VERY fussy. I think I may just have to continue my search on my own but thank you for your responses.
Yonily and Raspberry those were my thoughts too - why call my child Abbie when my name is Gail. It doesn't make sense but then it is the only one I am leaning towards.
ahandfulofdust - my name is no bastardization thank you - it stands on it's own separately from Abigail and I also feel Abbie does to but it is confirmed that it is not for me.

Back to the drawing board.
