Twin girl names

I've always had a boy name and a girl name, it never occurred to me to come up with two because it never occurred to me we might have twins. However, weirdly, my girl name, which I've loved since I was 11, doesn't seem to 'go' with any of the other names we like. DH is a teacher so is being very fussy because he associates names with certain kids and their characteristics. Surname is Brown, which I think sounds odd with flower names - like a dead wilting flower, and also puts a few others out so they don't sound like a Dulux paint chart!!

So far, and if they were born tomorrow, they would be Sophie and Charlotte. I'm a bit worried they're too
'top ten' though. My girl name was Eleni.

Other names we like are Mia, Xanthe, Elodie, Naomi. Love Poppy but can't get past the dead wilting Brown poppy!

Would love to find something that goes with Eleni really, but any suggestions more than welcome! Oh, and we'd pronounce it elle-en-ee not elle-eeny.

icecream yep, as per onyabike (thanks) - am absolutely against matchy names, I just don't want names that clash.

I'm surprised you think Elena might be confusing to pronounce but Eleni won't - when I read the OP I was thinking "is it el-ay-nee? Does it rhyme with Melanie? Is it el-EN-ee?" and I'd be surprised if other people got it how you want it first time.
It's not my cup of tea but I do think it goes well with both Mia and Xanthe.

Sophie and Charlotte Brown and nice names but very safe and unremarkable.

Heehee bluestars very true. Hadn't thought of that! Thank you - really don't want to have something with ambiguous pronunciation.

I feel exactly the same way about Sophie and Charlotte, otherwise they tick all my boxes (and my mother likes them - she's not a fan of Xanthe at all). We've given up talking to people about names now, especially mum, hence posting on here to get honest opinions.

Sophia much nicer than Sophie - if So-fee-ah rather than Soffy-ah.

Instead of Charlotte, what about Lottie?

I think, with your surname, you maybe need three syllables or an alliterative first name (which rules out my Lottie suggestion obviously Confused ). I have Brown as part of my surname too and it is tricky - I would have definitely have gone for alliterative if I wasn't hyphenated now I think about it more . . .

Onyabike · 11/08/2013 16:14

Other options:
Eleni and Arianna
Eleni and Zara
Eleni and Isis
Eleni and Melissa

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 11/08/2013 20:43

I thought it was pronounced El-a-ni?

Mia is very popular if you are worried about that. I don't like Xanthe. Naomi is lovely and not at all overused. Elodie is nice.

from your OP, if you want to use Eleni, then Xanthe seems to be the best match - don't worry about what your mum says, when the babies are here she will love them whatever they are called, and she had her turn naming you!

sleepingbeautiful · 12/08/2013 01:05

Sophie and Charlotte are nice but bit dull, especially with your surname.
Eleni and Xanthe sound good together.
I also like Eleni and Mia but prefer Eleni and Maia.
Others: Chloe, Penelope, Callista, Thalia, Gaia.

formicadinosaur · 12/08/2013 04:00

Elana is fab

Castlelough · 12/08/2013 04:31

I think Sophie and Charlotte are beautiful names Grin.
I also love Elena (Elaine-a) and think it would be much less ambiguous than Eleni, which I wouldn't be mad on!

Castlelough · 12/08/2013 04:33

And Ellen is a lovely classic name too! I also think Ellie sounds nice with Sophie if it was shortened for a nn.

Sophie and Ellen.
Charlotte and Ellen.

Castlelough · 12/08/2013 04:35

Or Eloise? (Eh-louise) which I adore!
Is beautiful with Sophie or Charlotte...

Best of luck!

Cornwall73 · 12/08/2013 06:02

Hello fellow future twin mum!
I really like the Eleni and Sophia/ Sofia combination. I would say both names phonetically as written.

rosyryan · 12/08/2013 15:02

I think it would be a real pity to give up Eleni. It's gorgeous.

Tigertots · 12/08/2013 16:21

If they were born at Christmas time, Holly & Ivy would be a pretty combination.

MadameJosephine · 12/08/2013 17:20

Much prefer Eloise to Eleni and I don't think it would have as many pronunciation issues.

How about Sophia and Eloise?

MummyPig24 · 12/08/2013 20:04

A friend just had twins and named them Jessica and Charlotte.

I like Eleni and Ava
Eleni and Thea
Eleni and Amaya

Nellelephant · 14/08/2013 08:47

I think Sophie and Charlotte are lovely names. I know of someone who has just had twin girls and called them Kensi and Harper Hmm

MsJupiterJones · 14/08/2013 11:06

I know (grown-up) twins Eleni and Iro. Eleni does have trouble with people pronouncing her name wrong sometimes but it is such a beautiful name. I think the ideas of Xanthe or Sophia are good, anything with a hint of Greek will work.

Sophie and Charlotte are lovely names but seems a shame not to use your favourite.

LaRosaBella · 14/08/2013 17:12

I love Eleni. I think Eleni and Xanthe or Mia sound lovely.

ch1134 · 15/08/2013 09:48

Sophie and Poppy. Nothing wrong with Poppy Brown.

OrangeMochaFrappucino · 17/08/2013 14:01

If I had twin girls I would call them Pearl and Ruby but those don't really fit your criteria!

skyflyer · 18/08/2013 21:11

Charlotte if her name gets shortened (as quite a few do) might end up Charlie Brown.

I know twin girls called Stephanie & Grace.
