Juliet - why does everyone here seem to love it?

I have seen several threads here recently where people say that they love the name Juliet. Why? And what other names evoke a similar feel to Juliet?

I don't think Julie is horrible, but it sounds unfinished. It could stand for any of the names mentioned here, none of which I dislike. My preference by a long way is Julia.

DIddled · 11/08/2013 01:05

Gutted! I am a Julie but much prefer Julia - but you gotta deal with what you are given!!!!

ShesADreamer · 11/08/2013 01:15

Julia is the one that got away for me. Sounds awful with our surname but if I have a granddaughter...

kaumana · 11/08/2013 01:15

My good friend is one but has always been known as Jules. Great name.

FoxyRoxy · 11/08/2013 14:06

I prefer Giulietta, I'm not a fan of Juliet in its anglicised form.

Snowbitch · 11/08/2013 16:15

My little one is Juliet, I think it's soft but classic.

AnxiousAugusta · 11/08/2013 19:50

I think Jools Oliver's name is Juliet?

lljkk · 11/08/2013 20:01

I find Juliet somewhere between twee & pretentious. In no way attractive.
Julie is plain but fine. I prefer Julia. Would quite like a grandchild called Julia.

KittenofDoom · 11/08/2013 20:57

"Jools" is pretentious in a "look at me, aren't I wacky" kind of way. (I still like Jools Holland though)

Saffyz · 11/08/2013 22:40

Jools is horrible. Like drools. And I don't like Jools Holland.

MrsDibble · 12/08/2013 13:55

I prefer Julia. How about the Italian spelling Giulia if you want to be more unusual?

AnxiousAugusta · 12/08/2013 22:27

Because most Brits wouldn't know how to pronounce Giulia.

AmericasTorturedBrow · 12/08/2013 22:31

I really like it, timeless and classic and literary - DD has it for her middle name mainly in tribute to our amazing midwife who delivered both DC. I wouldn't use it as a first name though just because I hate "Jules" as the inevitable shortened form
