Henry or Ethan?

We have two DSs - Oliver (Oli) and Benjamin (Ben).

We had sort of decided on Henry up to this point (I'm 37 weeks tomorrow), but DH is having concerns that it is too "posh" for us. I'm having different doubts that Henry is too similar to Ben and the 'ee' ending of Oli too.

There are no other names we particularly like. However, Ethan is one I've always liked and DH is quite open to it.

I just wondered which of the two would you go for in our situation, or any others you think we would like?

Any help appreciated - both DS1 and DS2 were born at 37 weeks, so I'm expecting things to kick off ASAP!!

I love Henry and think it goes well with your other names. Really not keen on Ethan, and I don't think it is the same 'sort' of name as your other two.

What about Alexander, Harry, Toby, Matthew?

Ethan is a classic Biblical name. It means "strong and optimistic, solid and enduring, permanent".

Henry is great but Ethan is more interesting.

Always Henry

Henry was on our list if dc4 was a boy. Our other boys are James and Samuel. Also loved Hugo.

I'm thinking of Henry too for DS3 due in a few weeks although when I mentioned it to five year old DD she said 'like Horrid Henry?' so I'm a bit concerned that it may get that kind of reaction from others (especially children). Not really a fan of Ethan and it's very popular where we live. Think it is quite a different type of name to Oliver and Benjamin too (which are both fab names!)

Henry, definitely. It's a classic so it isn't posh, IMO, and it's nothing like Ben at all x

Henry. Don't like Ethan. You can always call him Harry, which sounds a bit less posh I think!

Not Henry. It's just too common and I wouldn't want DS to be one of 4 or 5 in his class.

Ethan sounds better with the other 2 names I think.

TBH, there is only one other (8 year old) Henry I know here or even aware of, so maybe it is less common here? The whole common thing doesn't overly bother me either.

The Horrid Henry association is a concern though, hmmm.

Alexander - we know two last babies called Alexander!
Harry - quite like, but my feeling was that this would be more popular than Henry? (There are far more Harrys around here)
Toby - OK, but not overwowed by it
Matthew - already in the family

Henry. Great name, don't be put off by Horrid Henry. Nobody will give it a 2nd thought. Have you considered Seth, Edward or Arthur as they all seem to go with your other names?

I like Henry & think it goes well with your other names.

How about Rory?

Ethan makes me think of methane and for that reason I'm not keen.

Henry is as posh as Ben and Oscar. The horrid Henry would make me a little reserved.
