Could we use the name Jacob with this surname...?

Ok, so the surname is Aldrick.

We have automatically ruled out names beginning with 'B', male or female, (which is a shame as I love Bethan!) as we wouldn't want to inflict 'BAldrick' on our child but... we are debating whether or not a name that ends with a 'B' would be ok or whether the same issue would exist?

For example, we like Jacob so he would be Jacob Aldrick - is this fine? Or would it sound like Jaco-Baldrick?? And written down as a full name, would it be ok??

We also like Caleb but just not sure if we should use it???!

Maybe we are overthinking this??????!!!! Any thoughts please??

Thanks!

I think it sounds fine, probably best to avoid B as a first letter as you say, but I wouldn't have made the connection with a name ending in b, either on paper or spoken.

Fine I think. Would not have occurred to me.

Love Jacob & Caleb

Sounds fine to me.

Sounds ok to me. Probably overthinking it which is easily done!

That generation will know nothing of baldrick. Go for it

lollypopsicle · 07/08/2013 08:34

I imagine there are parents that don't know who Baldrick is let alone the generation your child will be brought up in. Jacob is a lovely name and sounds good with your surname.

Thank you so much for your responses, you've put my mind at rest! Smile

Jacob is definitely on the shortlist!! Smile

I would definitely think "Baldrick", sorry.

ThoraNomiki · 09/08/2013 09:33

If anyone did make the connection it would more likely be an amusing rather than offensive nickname opportunity.

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 09/08/2013 14:03

I would also think Baldrick if the first name ended in b.

hawkmcqueen · 09/08/2013 22:05

For me it's not an issue of Baldrick per se, it's more that the first name and surname run into each other and are hard to understand. So I would hear Jaco Baldrick, without considering a connection to the character, I would just struggle to understand it.
