Fraser?

So baby overdue and we're still arguing. Pretty much the only name we both like, assuming it's a DS, is Fraser.
My concern is that we are not Scottish (though dh's dad is) and we have a Scottish surname (mc...) so a bit worried that his name will sound very Scottish despite baby being English and will grow up in England. Nothing wrong with sounding scottish of course I'd just rather his name be more neutral, yet I can't do anything about the surname.
What do you think, both about its scottishness and also generally? Likely middle name is alexander (negotiable), wondering if this makes it even more scottish?!!

Yes, will sound v v Scottish with both those names but, if you love them, I wouldn't worry about it as all names have to orginate from somewhere! Surely there must be a Scottish link there somewhere with a Mc surname!?

sweetiepie1979 · 05/08/2013 10:08

It's fine go for it x

Fraser is really nice. We would have had it on our list but it was my OHs ex's dad and he didn't really want reminded of him.

It will sound Scottish but with the surname, unless you go for something really exotic like Romeo or something, it always will so maybe better to embrace it

If you go for anything else Celtic then it wil tend to sound Irish - we have a Mc surname which is actually Irish.

Christelle2207 · 05/08/2013 10:53

Thanks - dh is half scottish so at least we do have a genuine link. With the mc thing the names that seem to ring best are the scottish ones- cameron, hamish etc.

Fraser is a lovely name. And to be honest if you have a mc surname it won't really matter what first name you have it will always sound Scottish.
Go with Fraser or Frazer even

soontobeslendergirl · 05/08/2013 10:57

Exactly, better sticking to the Scottish thing :)

though even if you add in an English name it still sounds Scottish e.g. Henry Mc.. Thomas Mc..

Onyabike · 05/08/2013 11:02

I think it sounds great, go for it!

Lollyheart · 05/08/2013 11:04

Love Fraser, that's why I have one Smile
We live in England too with no Scottish connections .

Another vote for Fraser. It's a fab name. You do have Scottish connections through DH's dad, and even if you didn't, it's still a great strong name.

ComtesseDeFrouFrou · 05/08/2013 11:24

I love Fraser - we discounted it because, although our surname is passably Scottish, DH and I are very English IYSWIM, so it would be odd. But if you have a Mc surname (not in the McDonalds sense Wink) I think it could work. At least it won't sound odd paired with your surname.

Just seen that uour DH is half Scottish. That's LOADS Scottish enough Smile

I haven't even been to Scotland Grin

GlaikitFizzog · 05/08/2013 11:31

Love fraser, I am Scottish, and I think your Scottish connection is strong enough to carry it off. Not the
At you need a connection to use a name you love.

Good luck!

mrstowers · 05/08/2013 14:44

I love it!

Teamjavert · 05/08/2013 15:44

Personally I hate the name Fraser. It has an unpleasant sound IMHO. But I think it's fine to use if you aren't Scottish.

Danielle1588 · 10/08/2013 19:06

I love fraser!

Kittykatmacbill · 10/08/2013 23:42
