Female versions of male names for sisters?!

Hypothetical question as I'm actually pregnant with dc2 but...
I have a dd called Georgia if I were to have a dd2 could I give her either Harriet/Alexandra or Josephine?
Fwiw I don't see Georgia as a female version of a male name particularly but it seems others do (comments since the arrival of Prince George)
Anyway would it look strange if dd2 had any of the names above like I secretly wanted boys- I don't by the way I just like classical strong female names not one for cutesy girly names

Interested in the opinions too as I already have an Antonia and Josephine/Harriet are strong contenders for the hypothetical DC3! tbh it had never crossed my mind before..

No, it wouldn't even have necessarily occurred to me that they were all female variants of male names, they are so well-established (and go well together - like you say they're all classic and strong). Unlike, say, Jamesina or Thomasina or Jacobina.

Ihatepeas · 03/08/2013 19:17

Wouldn't of given it a second thought.. You are over thinking this!!

Alisvolatpropiis · 03/08/2013 19:20

They are female forms of a male name. Everybody knows that.

But no I don't think it's odd to use more than one for your DD's. An amazing amount of female names are actually just feminized male names.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 03/08/2013 19:25

Overthinking definitely. Wouldn't have occurred to me.

CheeseFondueRocks · 03/08/2013 19:59

Yes, overthinking.
I happen to like female forms of male names. We have a Frederika and will hopefully soon have a Henrietta. We also love Philippa, Georgina and Theodora. AND I really don't want any boys! So what does that say about me? Grin

Alisvolatpropiis · 03/08/2013 20:00

Meant to add - I like a fair few of them myself.

Wishfulmakeupping · 03/08/2013 20:07

Think maybe you're all right! It's just our dd is already nickname George and Alexandra will become Alex more than likely so thought it might look like I was hankering for boys but think you're right :)

Think they would go well

Alisvolatpropiis · 04/08/2013 00:44

Wish

Nn's change as children get older.

I know an Alexandra who goes by Alex,Al,Allie,Lex,Lexi and Alexa along with her full name depending on the company she is in.

The names sounds good together. You and your DH like them, go for it.

The Lawson daughters are called

Nigella
Thomasina
Horatia

All awful names that scream to me 'Damn it, we hoped and we prayed that you would be a boy'.

So some names seem more like 'boys names made to fit female offspring' type names such as the above mentioned Thomasina, Jamesina and Philippa, whereas other don't.

Alexandra - nice name (I don't think Alexander)
Georgia - nice name (I don't think George)
Antonia - nice name (I don't think Anthony)
Josephine - ugly
Harriet - so very ugly
