Jules (nn for Juliette) or Sophie, which do you prefer?

Juliet.

Juliette

PurplePlaidTweed · 02/08/2013 12:17

Julia/Juliet seems quite popular on MN.

I like Sophie because it sounds timeless, pretty and 'no frills'. I also like Julia/Juliet but actually prefer Jules.

So, in your personal opinion, what's a 'typical' Sophie like, and what/who do you think of when you hear the name 'jules'?

Really like Sophie but Juliette is a lovely name too, though not sure about Jules for a child, even though I have two friends called Julie and call both of them Jules, seems more of an adult nickname (imo).

Wbdn28 · 02/08/2013 12:33

Sophie. Jules sounds like drools.

squoosh · 02/08/2013 12:36

Jules reminds me of Jamie Oliver's wife.

Sophie doesn't remind me of anything in particular as it's so widely used. I know all kinds of Sophies. I do see it as quite a frilly name though.

Ok, Hmm am getting myself ever more confused, I think. Does Sophie sound 'plain' in a 'girl next door' way? Or can it sound sophisticated, (no pun), clever etc?

What could be an alternative to Sophie? I am sure this question has been chewed over endlessly but please help me make up my mind.

Prefer Juliet. Sophie is quite plain to me, probably because it has become so popular. Juliet is a beautiful name.

heidihole · 02/08/2013 18:04

I like Sophie

Alisvolatpropiis · 02/08/2013 21:11

There are so many Sophie's where I live. My own age (24) and very young. I've always thought it a bit of "blah" name (sorry)

Juliet/te nn Jules is great!

GW297 · 02/08/2013 21:14

Sophie

squoosh · 02/08/2013 21:49

Sophie is like Claire/Louise/Sarah, it's bland and inoffensive.

Juliet is far less common.

cafecito · 03/08/2013 01:28

I like both

I like Juliet, particularly like Julia, and I like Sophie and Sophia

MrsBungle · 03/08/2013 01:31

I am not a fan of either really but I think that Juliet is much more sophisticated that Sophie which I see as bland, girl next door.

justanuthermanicmumsday · 03/08/2013 02:11

It's not Sophie is soofie, least that's what my son tells me of a girl in his class in Scotland lol. soofie does sound cool to me. Sophia, saffia, saffiya saffy for short? I like it.

I prefer juliette to jules. Sounds more sophisticated and jules sounds like a nickname rather than given name. Aslo ain't jules Jamie Oliver's wife?

justanuthermanicmumsday · 03/08/2013 02:12

I didn't see ur post mrsbungle used same description as you sophisticated we are ;)

OutragedFromLeeds · 03/08/2013 02:21

I like Jules a lot, but not keen on Juliet. I'd go for Julia or Julianna.

Sophie is fine, but nothing special.
