emma is too popular

I have always loved the name Emma but it is so popular (not pregnant just talking to hubby) so I want to name a girl Emmaleigh pronounced Emily..... any thoughts?

Emma and Emily are both lovely i don't think either are extremely popular I don't know any baby's/children called Emma and only one called Emily! Emmaleigh is to many unnecessary letters IMO

I don't actually think Emma is that popular in RL. Seems to be well known rather than well used.

Please don't spell that name like that. It's awful.

Emily is a much more popular name then Emma.
Don't go with Emmaleigh!

I only know 3 Emmas, one is 28, one is 36 and one is 3. Emmaleigh is unneccessarily long, she would always be spelling it.

I know lots of Emilys of all ages from 0 to 60s, and only 2 Emmas (aged 36 and 1). I'd stick with Emma.

I don't know an Emma under 17. But Emily is very very popular among the under 6s, that's true (were 3 or 4 in DS reception intake alone).

I like Emma and Emily but have to agree I am not keen on that spelling.
Emma is on our list and Emily would be if it wasn't my 1 year old god daughter's name.

I have an 11-year old Emma and have never come across another DC with the same name and only know one adult Emma. I think it's just well-known rather than used a lot.

I'm only aware of 1 Emma under 10

However there are 5 Girls called Emily in my 9 year old's class

I would stick with Emma personally

I know a lot of Emma's aged 6 upwards. Don't know a baby Emma and there's not an Emma at my son's nursery. Though there's several Emily's.

I personally don't like Emmaleigh.

Yes, if you want to call her Emily calll her Emily, not some made up name that wouldn't be actually pronounced the same.

I know lots of Emma's my age (30's) but no baby Emma's. I know quite a few baby Emily's. emmaleigh isn't nice. If you like Emily, just spell it Emily IMO.

Really? Emily is 1000 times more popular than Emma. I know 8 Emilys age newborn to 6. I know one toddler Emma and I think it's a much nicer name.

I know quite a few Emmas in their 40s, but only one young one (9 yo). I know a few young Emilys of differing ages, but only one adult one. Emma is definitely used less than Emily at the moment. The spelling Emmaleigh is not to my taste. You could always spell it Emilie if you want to be different, but you/your daughter will constantly be correcting it.

My 3y niece is called Emma though she is the only child I know with the name.

There were two girls named Emily in DD's class of 11 girls. It's far more popular.

Really dislike the spelling Emmaleigh - sorry.

Emma is lovely, if you want something similar to Emily how about Amelie? much prettier than emmaleigh xxxxx

I think Emmaleigh looks silly written down. I don't know any baby Emma's but lots of Emily's.

Stick with Emma.. it is beautiful and a classic.

I like Emma, however I know about 7 under 10. It wouldn't bother me, I'm the defender of popular names Smile . I think if you want to use Emmaleigh, you'll need to hyphenate it otherwise it's just a spelling you made up.

If its the Em sound you like, what about Emmeline, Emerson or just Emme?

Please don't choose Emmaleigh - she'd spend her whole life spelling it and getting puzzled faces in return. Emily's perfectly lovely, and fwiw I don't know a single little one.

I like both because they both quite classic Jane Austen type names and so will stand the test of time.

YY Emmaleigh is awful imo
