Help! Baby name regret.

All through my pregnancy I searched endlessly for the 'perfect' name for my son. After arguing with oh we gave in amd decided we would just know when he was born. We both wanted a name that was unusual but not too crazy and I loved names ending in 'y' eg cory, brody, riley. When our son was born oh said his name was Airan, like Arran with the 'A' pronounced AE. I liked it to begin with and it really suits him. Now hes 4 months and im scared no one will say it right. There's only been one occasion where its been said wrong but im still so unsure about it. I think I was just too tired after labour to try and convince oh for one of my favourites.

I think people will say it correctly, because it's spelled phonetically. But they might not spell it correctly, because it's normally spelled Aaron.

I have to admit, I much prefer the "correct" spelling

ZolaBuddleia · 29/07/2013 21:06

Sorry, do you pronounce it EE-ran? Or AIR-ann? Or neither of those?

If you like it and it really suits him I should stick with it. If only one person has said it wrongly in 4 months I'd say it can't be that difficult to pronounce when you hear it. Spelling's a bit confusing, what's the nationality of the name?

ZolaBuddleia · 29/07/2013 21:06

X-post. Is it Aaron?

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 29/07/2013 21:08

Confusingly, the name Aaron is sometimes pronounced Air-on, sometimes Arron.

I prefer Aaron, pronounced Airon

HTH Grin

RayABlokeIUsedToKnow · 29/07/2013 21:13

I would pronounce it Ai-ran is that correct?

Onesleeptillwembley · 29/07/2013 21:16

It's nice. U like the ones you preferred. They're awful. Don't regret it, you made the right choice.

Tay96 · 29/07/2013 21:29

Its pronounced AIR-AN we thought about the spelling aaron but I really didn't like the 'on' ending and tried for something a bit softer. Im not sure on the actual nationality of the name but were from Scotland. His middle name is Jack so ive been trying the nn Aj but it doesn't suit him at all and just seems silly :(

Ok. That's a really easy word to pronounce, so if you get in first and tell people how to say it I'm sure there won't be problems, if that's what you're worried about.

If I just saw it written down, I think I'd guess at Eye-run.

Tay96 · 29/07/2013 21:39

Thank yous :) feeling a lot better now thanks for the reassurance.

We're having an 'Aaron' debate right now. Not sure of the double 'a'. It's a lovely name though.

Layl77 · 29/07/2013 21:58

It's lovely don't worry!

I really like it!

If you honestly think you can't live with it, can you have an honest conversation with your OH and see if he'll agree to changing it?

I changed DD1's middle name when she was about 8onths old because it just didn't sit right with me. I'd tried to get used to it, but the older she got and the more her personality came through, the more I just didn't think it suited her.

You can change a baby's name just by goig back down Tk the registry office with their birth certificate, no cost and no bother, until they are a year old.

formicadinosaur · 30/07/2013 10:06

I think you have to go with your heart. You can change the name up to one year old on the birth certificate. Just need to go to registrar. You coyly always use the nick name Ronnie for him and keep original name.

formicadinosaur · 30/07/2013 10:08

Or use nick name arry
