If your DC's name was no.1 ( and has been so for the last 10 years) in another EU country.
Not overly used in the UK at the moment but I am worried it will become very common Confused
I am having a wobble, DC is 5 months old.
Feel free to slap me Grin

If your child is already five months old, I think it's too late to start worrying about it tbh.

If its an English name then yes it's likely to be popular elsewhere. If its a name in the language of the country I'd say your child's name will be safe enough.

Onyabike · 26/07/2013 10:48

If you love the name, stop worrying, relax and enjoy your squiggy baby!

squoosh · 26/07/2013 10:55

It's one thing worrying about whether your child's name is overly common in the country they'll be born and brought up in but when you start taking its popularity in other countries into account.....................you have taken it a step too far.

Step away from the baby name statistics!

heidihole · 26/07/2013 11:00

I agree with squoosh she is very wise!

Frikadellen · 26/07/2013 12:28

it bothers me that dd1 (age 15)'s name became as popular as it did the year before she was born it was not on the top 100 list.. now it is in the 20th.

I still love her name though (Phoebe) and no I wouldn't change it I might smack the next person who says "like in friends"

no From JD Salingers "the Catcher in the rye"

squeak2392 · 26/07/2013 21:17

If I chose it specifically because it wasn't particularly popular here, then yes, it would bother me.
But if I just chose it because I liked, nothing would turn me off :)
I'm trying not to use Amelia or Olivia because of their popularity, but if it came down to it and I really wanted to, I would.

And having looked at a few other European countries top 100s myself, I can say that there are quite a few names on the continent that are highly unlikely to travel very far.

hurricanemum · 26/07/2013 21:50

My dc is 10 months and am still wobbling. Your situation sounds very different to mine though so in your case I really wouldn't worry. Enjoy the name you love and don't get in a pickle about it like me!

kinkyfuckery · 26/07/2013 21:52

Stop being daft. If you like the name, does it matter how 'popular' it is???

OpenMindedSceptic · 27/07/2013 20:37

Thanks everyone

squoosh you are right, DH keeps telling me to relax a bit too Grin . I blame the person who put up the worldwide baby names link!

frikadellen for me, Phoebe is Holden's sister. Didn't realise it was becoming so popular, I only know one!

squeak No, the choice was not based on popularity. Having said that I do like the fact it's not used very often in the UK. Confused When is your DC due?

hurricane sorry to hear you are also wobbly. I never felt this way with DC1 and his name is very popular!

kinkyfuckery I know I am being stupid. I love the name, it really suits DC2. We've had mixed reactions but that has not bothered me at all. I guess I am worried if it becomes popular it will lose it's timelessness.
