So if I was all set on George .... What else might I like?

Despite my best efforts to send psychic 'not George, not George' thoughts their way the worst has happened. Not sure that this will stop me using the name if its still my number one come December, but would like to consider some alternatives in case there is something lovely I haven't thought of.

Dh would like Jacob, I'm not keen on jake though for some reason. I like fairly traditional names and would like something that I could see as cute on a cheeky, chubby baby/toddler but also suitable for a teen and adult. I'd rather it not be massively over popular, but George and Jacob are both pretty common I think so I guess this is the least important of my criteria! Any ideas please?

Benedict?

OrangeMochaFrappucino · 24/07/2013 20:58

Edward shortened to Ted?

MrsGSR · 24/07/2013 21:01

I saw 'coby' suggested as a nickname for Jacob on here, which I'd never thought of but quite like instead of jake

I love jack but DHs cousin is called jack .... We've settled on Zach

SadPander · 24/07/2013 21:07

LittleMiss I know how you feel. But now every time I see someone say they are still using it I think 'good for you' and that they are using it despite the Royal name not because of it. Makes me think they are confident in their opinions and I maybe I should be in mine too. Do you have any alternatives you are considering?

I thin Hugo is really cute, will suggest to DH but fear it may get the same reaction from his as Rupert.

William
Daniel
Henry
James
David
Thomas
Alexander

BiL was born 3 months after the arrival of Prince William.
I'm sure there may have been comments in the early days about had he been named after the new prince, but honestly, 31 years on no-one bats an eyelid, or can be bothered to workout if it might be linked.

Now, if the newest prince had a "far out" name, maybe it would be linked still, but George is lovely.

2gorgeousboys has pretty much written out out shortlist, tho we had Daniel in place of David, and Peter was on there also.

Congrats on your pregnancy.

Stick with George - it's lovely!

LittleMissMedium · 24/07/2013 21:18

sadpander no! I was thinking Louis but I think that will shoot up in popularity soon. It's the fact that my last name is what it is. If it wasn't the 'royal' last name, I wouldn't think twice about using George

DontmindifIdo · 24/07/2013 21:30

What about William?

Oscar
Oliver
Hugo
Benedict

And why not George? Keep it on the list, by December you'll know if it's suddenly v popular or not.

WhispersOfWickedness · 24/07/2013 21:41

I really don't think you need to worry. I was born in the same year as William, and looking back, there were quite a few in my year at school. But I never ever thought of the connection until now. George is very popular now, no-one will notice Smile

heidihole · 24/07/2013 21:49

I don't think anyone will care if your baby is called George. I'm sure there are plenty of early 30's men out there called William and no-one bats an eye lid. If this pregnancy is a boy we are calling it Henry and so have been sending "not Henry" vibes to them! But if they had picked that we'd have used it anyway. Don't worry.

MrsMongoose · 24/07/2013 22:05

I really don't think the royal matters - George was shithot popular before the baby!

celestialsquirrels · 24/07/2013 22:08

Guy?

Giles?

JaquelineHyde · 24/07/2013 22:16

I have a George (7yrs old) and now have a Hugo (12 weeks old).

I would stick with George if it's the name you really love.

Other names to consider would be maybe Henry, Nicholas, Edward, Michael, Hugo, Arthur, James, Charles etc

Mhysa · 24/07/2013 22:41

I love Alby or Albert, how about Sebastian?. Or nick Alexander?

kreecherlivesupstairs · 24/07/2013 22:54

Or Duncan, Gavin or Adrian...

Zynzong · 24/07/2013 22:56

Frederick, David, Robert, Patrick, Daniel. All of those are nicer than George! (imo)
