George Alexander

We are expecting our first baby, a boy, in a few weeks time and had decided a couple of months ago on the name George Alexander. It was pretty much the only name DH and I both agreed on and goes well with our surname, doesn't conflict with any other immediate family members or friends but is a nod to older relatives etc

Just seen the royal baby name and whilst maybe I should be flattered that Kate and William obviously have the same taste in names as us, now we have a dilemma. Do we stick with our planned name anyway despite the fact that it will just look like we have copied them (hadn't revealed planned name to anyone) or should we try to come up with something different?

If you love this name then keep it George is a popular name, so it won't seem like "copying". Alexander is a great classic name too. Most people won't be that likely to recall the royal baby's full name in years to come. If anyone says anything, just say yes, that's the names we'd already chosen, and what a coincidence.

Could you swap and go for alexander george? (Think I prefer that combo).

We've got an Alexander James, which obviously I like!

I think Alexander George sounds better personally.

I wouldn't let it stop you. How often are you likely to shout out "George Alexander" in the street?

Well after having the fourth boy, we had run out of names for boys, but both decided on George Rockafella Clarke, (grin)

Thanks for the reassurance and opinions. Although I like Alexander George, we had gone for a short 1st name as our surname is long (4 syllables) so it becomes quite a mouthful with a 4 syllable 1st name as well!

We have decided to keep George Alexander as our first choice name but line up an alternative as well in case he just doesn't look like a George! Hoping that by early Sept, the royal baby hysteria has died down a bit anyway and people won't even remember his middle name.
