Peaches for a middle name... too hippy/out there? opinions please

I have a 4 year old DS, ever since we told him we we're expecting at the first scan he has been adamant he wants to call the baby Sid or Peaches (a huge Ice Age fan!).

I am now 38 weeks pregnant and we cannot decide on a middle name if bump is a girl. Think it would be quite nice to use DS idea to keep him involved but not sure if im keen on using Peaches.

I like unusual names but not 'silly' names and cant decide which it is.

What are peoples opinions on the name Peaches for a middle name?

I like it as a middle name. Too wacky for a first name, imo, but cool as a middle.

My son was 5 when my youngest was born and he wanted to call him Captain Parker - this is reason why small children should not be involved in the naming of new babies and siblings

I wouldn't use it. It makes me think of Peaches Geldof. Also, while it's sweet to include your son up to a point, from the POV of the new baby it might be a little irksome for her to grow up knowing she owes her somewhat wacky middle name to her big brother's "Ice Age" phase when he was four. I'm sure some people would find that cute but equally others won't, and at this point you've no way of knowing which will apply.

I'm a bit old-fashioned but I tend to the view that the baby's names are the parents' responsibility, and the time for DS to have a say is when he's naming his own children. Your prospective baby isn't a doll or a teddy and will have to live with the consequences of a four-year-old's whim, and four-year-olds aren't exactly renowned for taking the long view.

DS2 has an ordinary first name but an 'out there' middle name. (It def sounds like a 'quotemarks' name.)

It is actually an old family surname, so it does have a story to it. It hasn't caused him any problems, (except he says no one believes it's his middle name!)

I like the juxtaposition of his regular first name and quirky second. It's a pretty cool combination.

Love it. Do it. Middle names can be as creative as you please. I remember two girls at school I used to idolise. One named 'Peachey' and one named 'Amandine'. Both stunningly exotic, eccentric and hippy chicks.
