Chav names - is Christa one? Will Arabella turn into one in the future?

Is Christa a chav name? I think it's really pretty and love the name Christabel. But with so many names now being considered chav, I can't be sure.

I also love Arabella but it seems to be getting popular. As classy and elegant as it is, I'm not confident it's as chav proof as say Cordelia.

Could you let us know what name you decide on so that I can avoid it? Would hate my child to have a name that a judgemental snob might pick and be associated with all that comes with it.

My DNeice calls her vulva Arabella. I'm not sure why.

Other names ( I change my mind like the weather) are Clarissa, Clementine, Elizabeth, Holly, Annabelle, Mirabel, Beatrice, Cecily, Sophie,
Laura, Josephine, Miriam.

All names start at the top and roll downwards, that is the way it works.

But I don't think christabel will fall into this category. What will happen will be that in a few years ALL bel/belle names will fall out of use for a few decades That is is my guess.

The 'chav-est' family I saw recently had children called David, Christopher and Sarah! Lovely names! pity about the football shirts and the skin heads, but they couldn't be criticised for their children's names. I've seen far stupider names suggested on here!

Christabel is beautiful btw. Not keen on Arabella though.

Nothing wrong at all with those names and at the end of the day they thought of their kids futures, which is all it's about really.

I like frilly names but find Christabel a bit fairy-like. I think Christa sounds odd, tbh. If that's the name you're aiming at then Christy, or Kirsty sounds similar but better somehow.

I've toyed with Arabella for my bump.

Well I went to school with a Christa in the eighties and it was quite a rough area. Does that help? Hmm

I agree with you op regarding wanting to give kids the best start in life, and a name is certainly something that can affect you for the rest of your life. Even if people don't like the term chav we all know it when we see it or hear it!

If is ok to label some names as posh without people having a canary why is there such a big deal labelling names as chav, common etc.

In answer to your question op I think there may be a small dance that Arabella may go that way purely based on the huge popularity of Isabella in all its formats, however I think it is a minute chance. Also with any name you can never be sure, all it takes is one if the Kardashians to pick it as a baby name!

I'm not getting into a row here but I think it's new names that burst into popularity really quickly that are at the most risk of becoming slightly tarnished.

Arabella reminds me of Arabella Buckley from the Whyteleaf school series by Enid Blyton! Christabel reminds me of Christabel Pankhurst which is brilliant.

eg, Jade. If I met a Jade I wouldn't think "oh she'll be a right chav" but the name in itself is an example of a name that I think burst into popularity too quickly. It wasn't used as a name until it was over used as a name.

Fucking awful thread.

Fairy like...interesting lol
Christy is lovely.
My surname is very common, so it's kind of tricky finding a first name that has the beauty of a lot of popular or classical names but stands out a little bit amongst the zillions of that name with our surname combo.

What name did you decide?

I agree with fluffyraggies re Christabel, to my ear it sounds very frilly and twee.

Not that keen in Arabella either.

Prefer Araminta and Annabel.

Arabella reminds me of the Joan Aiken children's books - Arabella's Raven (Mortimer) - Escaped Black Mamba; The Bread Bin; The Spiral Stair; etc ...

does anyone else remember Bernard Cribbins telling these stories on the BBC? Wonderful! ''Never more''!

Sorry OP :)

I don't think the OP has any class.

No one with any class would use the word 'Chav'

I like Annabel but Araminta is dreadful.

In defence of the OP, I wondered these things when I was pregnant too. Because for a lot of people who are British and Middle class they know instinctively which names might not be regarded so well. They know, so they don't have to ask. They don't have to start a thread like this which obviously does leave the oP open to criticism. But some names are sneered at, pigeon-holed and judged. The OP isn't insulting anybody else's children's names. She's not being a snob, she wants to protect her children from the Katie Hopkins of this world!

Christa is fine imo.

Arabella is like Annabelle. Makes me feel like the parents think they have had a Princess Beautiful child and it is all too much. I bit like calling your child Pretty.

Oh I forgot about the Kardashians lol. I actually liked Penelope until one of those sisters names their kid that. I am waiting for Veronica to show up somewhere lol

Yes, the new names seem to come out of nowhere and go off like a rocket.

It's a headache trying to name kids, especially if your hubby says no to everything you like. When I mentioned Clarissa which is frilly which is why I like it. He said it sounded like a disease! But then he didn't like Madeline or Eloise or most names I come up with.
