OK. So im PG with a girl, my first child - very excited!

We were going to name her Alyssa as we both love it. But my DHs best friend has recently traumatically passed away and DH and i were thinking about using his name as a remembrance/respect kind of thing.

His name was Bailey --
I cant decide whether its nice when used as a girls name or not? my mum mentioned maybe changing the spelling to Bailea -- but not sure on that either!

I love the name and the sound but not sure what others would think??
advice please! and be as kind as poss! lol

Bailey is fine I think - I wouldn't choose it myself, but wouldn't be shocked and appalled if I knew someone who named their child that!

Bailea is awful though Grin

Actually, the more I think about it, I quite like Bailey Smile

Especially with nn Bea

toni1bump · 20/07/2013 14:41

Bea pronounced as in bumble bee?

yeah im not keen on Bailea either but thought the 'lea' was a bit more girlie?

I think i might just start saying both names out loud and see which one rolls off the tongue better with our accents! lol (manc/scouse mix lol!) x

You could use it as a middle name Alyssa Bailey sounds really good

toni1bump · 20/07/2013 14:51

doya know what i didnt even think of that. sounds a bit of a mouthful though with surname -- would be Ashworth x

I've only known two people called Bailey and they were both girls. It never seemed odd to me really; I think with it being not being a run-of-the-mill sort of a name there's a lot more scope for gender freedom.

muppetthecow · 20/07/2013 14:56

That seems very oddly worded... Sorry! I just meant, people are less likely to think "But that's a boy's name" because it's not a top ten one... Smile

thegreylady · 20/07/2013 14:58

I love it as a middle name and think it goes well with Alyssa.I don't think it is a mouthful with Ashworth I think the three names flow well together.

elQuintoConyo · 20/07/2013 14:59

I think Bailey sounds really pretty.
I wouldn't spell is Bailea it looks horrible! And she'd be constantly having to spell it.
If you used it as a middle name, you coul add another beginning with B, for example:
Alyssa Bailey Barbara Ashworth
So her initials would be ABBA

Sorry, the heat is getting to me!

Congatulations, OP Thanks

toni1bump · 20/07/2013 15:02

Haha ABBA would be a pretty cool initial! :P

Im liking Alyssa Bailey now tbh! Will run is by DH when he gets home. Although he has his heart set on Alyssa Rose, bless him!

thankyou elQuintoConyo :)! x

Hhm. Would stay away from Bailea, you're into cre8tive spelling territory there.

I think it'd be fine for a girl (I know a female Harley), it's like Riley in that respect. Much more female than the other surnamey names like Mason/Logan.

toni1bump · 20/07/2013 15:03

muppetthecow i got what u meant, no worries! :D :P x

ZolaBuddleia · 20/07/2013 15:03

Ooh! Alyssa Bailey is much nicer than Alyssa Rose, Rose is one of those meh middle names that's just a filler, like Grace.

fluffyraggies · 20/07/2013 15:03

I've known 2 Baileys, one boy and one girl. My youngest DD 'married' the boy Bailey in reception class Grin They separated a month later as she had 'married' someone else during break time, lol.

Anyway, sorry - not much help -

I think Alyssa Bailey sounds lovely OP :)

toni1bump · 20/07/2013 15:05

zola he wanted Rose as first name. i put my foot down and said no but would settle for middle name. Im gonna push for Bailey now, if we hyphenated both our surnames it would be ABBA!! but i reallllly dont agree! lol x

toni1bump · 20/07/2013 15:07

i he's just suggested Alyssa Bailey Rose Ashworth via text!!!
im very uncertain on 4 names though!! :P x

elQuintoConyo · 20/07/2013 15:09

Now I really want an ABBA baby
DS is OGD, very boring - or not, if you like Countdown! Hurrah!

toni1bump · 20/07/2013 15:11

mines TB! :| very morbid! ABRA sounds good! :P like, abracadabra! or could get mickey taken "haha you're a bra!' ... i work with kids! i know how mean they can be! :P x

elQuintoConyo · 20/07/2013 15:13

As long as she doesn't marry a man who's surname is Cadabra ... Abra Cadabra! You are going to have one very cool daughter Grin

Alyssa Bailey Rose Ashworth is a stonking name, pretty, it flows well, it has a name you both chose (Alyssa) plus your DP's friend's name, plus DP's choice (Rose).
I don't understand the problem with two middle names, my sister has them and it has never been an issue in forty years!

elQuintoConyo · 20/07/2013 15:15

Cross-post! Takes me too long to type on phone! Smile

toni1bump · 20/07/2013 15:16

i think it just sounds a little 'mum couldnt decide' ... i do like the flow of it when i say it outloud though. im sat here talkin to myself haha! x

I like two middle names I have two as does my brother and my DD1 has too. I've pursuaded DH to do it again for DC2.

dufflefluffle · 20/07/2013 15:19

Bailey Ashworth is a great name - pronounceable, straightforward and distinctive. Also, there won't be another one in her school. Plus a name with a significance attached is lovely. We named dd after someone who was deeply insulted though and so we had to change it!

fanjodisfunction · 20/07/2013 15:22

I always think of myself has my first name and my two middle names. But I'm also my first name and my married name. Its like that's who I am, and the three names make me unique. If that makes sense.
