What do you think? Love Liv, and considered it for DD, but just didnt feel brave enough at the time. Now, I like Olive and Liv. However, I live in a very Connor/Jack/Sophie/Ella area. Olive and Liv would both be equally Hmm to most.

Wwyd?

I really like it!!

LittleSporksBigSpork · 06/07/2013 20:18

I think both are nice, though prefer Olivine as a long name.

MakeGlutenFreeHay · 06/07/2013 20:19

I have Liv and Meg as cousins..... (Liv is Olivia, Meg just Meg).

Not sure about Olive, myself. The only alternative that springs to mind is Viv instead of Liv - perhaps Vivienne. Not sure about that either though....

My dd is Olive, now 15 months. Everyone has said how lovely it is and how it's unusual but not too out there iyswim! She is liv or livvy for short which is also commented upon positively. We also had meg on our name shortlist!

My nannie is called Olive! At the age of 90 she is still beautiful and lovely as ever. Olive is a great name and she is such a fab woman, that it os my dd's middle name!

buttercrumble · 06/07/2013 20:26

Love olive

ZolaBuddleia · 06/07/2013 20:28

Love Liv just as it is, and yes, it goes well with Meg.

My reservation will be that she'll be around bazillions of Olivias, so the presumption will be that that is what it's short for.

Elquota · 06/07/2013 20:41

Olive is getting trendy. It's a name that is suddenly appearing again when it was pretty much never used at all for decades.

rockybalboa · 06/07/2013 21:05

Love Olive!

MortifiedAdams · 06/07/2013 21:49

make brilliant!

Liking how many of those who considered Liv/Olice also had Meg.

I think Liv is very nice. Could definitly use on its own as long as it goes well with your surname.

Olive is quite nice, im getting used to it. A few years ago I would have said no but I remember watching a film with a young olive (can't remember which film) and since then it has been slightly more common and growing in 'acceptability' for me.

When you speak of being brave do you mean you worry what others think? Because I don't think people would respond negatively to it and i think it is the type of name to grow on people.

So if you love olive use it!

About the other suggestions I dislike Olivia (don't like the different possible pronounciations). Also I think of the pig.

I really like Livia but people might confuse it with Olivia.

bugsybill · 06/07/2013 22:18

Also I much prefer olive to Livinia.

bail16 · 25/07/2013 22:18

My daughter (4 months old) is called Olive. Other than my mum and MIL everyone else has been very positive with their reaction on her name! And she really suits it. I've never met anyone else called Olive, but lots of people I meet seem to know someone called Olive. We haven't shortened it to Liv but would consider it as she gets older.
Strangely, I really don't like the name Olivia at all!

MERLYPUSS · 26/07/2013 09:29

There are probably 1000's of Olivias and they dont get 'the look'. I dont see why Olive should be any different. And besides it was my late mum's name ans she was neither a gresy bl;ack savoury snack, a clippy on the busses or a nordic hut Grin

ch1134 · 26/07/2013 10:25

gorgeous name - reminds me of something strong, timeless, healthy and delicious... also of sunshine, fresh air...

DonDrapersAltrEgoBigglesDraper · 26/07/2013 10:32

For some reason I just can't like Olive. Although it is better than the yawnsome Olivia.

I totally lump the name Olive in with the name Hazel.

looki · 26/07/2013 10:41

I love the name Olive. I wouldn't shorten it. It's underused and due a comeback. Sadly DH has vetoed it as it is his aunts name and he thinks it would look like we were naming DD after her.

NorbertDentressangle · 26/07/2013 10:41

I know of a toddler Olive but I really don't like the name - to me it just reminds me of Olive from On the Buses.

The parents of the Olive I know are much younger than me so obviously don't make that association.

I think its also too 'old lady', but not in the way that some old lady names become popular again (Phoebe, Lily etc). Its more like the old lady names that no amount of reclaiming make it popular again ( think Myrtle, Gertrude etc)

Keenoonvino · 26/07/2013 20:34

I like Olive. But we already have an Arthur and my husband almost fell off his chair laughing when I said I'd consider it if we had a girl next. Apparently there is an Arthur and Olive duo on some tv programme...but would anyone know that?!

SelectAUserName · 27/07/2013 05:29

I don't like Olive at all - it has plain, clumpy, middle-aged connotations for me - but I love Olivia. Go figure!

Liv is cool though. I'm not usually a fan of NNs as baptismal names but Liv works really well with Meg.
