As you can probably tell my my username the first 2 letters in my name are Nat, now do you think if we called a boy Nathanael (nan Than) it would look strange? Like I'd named him after me??

Ooo, never thought of that. I was going to use this name if I'd had a boy and my name is also the same first 3 letters....

So, my first thoughts are it's fine.

fruitpastille · 01/07/2013 18:43

Possibly. Sorry.

Rhubarbgarden · 01/07/2013 19:46

Yes it would.

Littlecherublegs · 01/07/2013 19:47

Yes I think so. I certainly wouldn't do it.
Shame because Nathaniel is a great name!

fanjodisfunction · 01/07/2013 19:53

I know a mother called Lindsey and a son called Lindon, noone has ever said did you name him after yourself.

And its never occured to me untill I wrote the names down together once on a card.

natandmat · 01/07/2013 22:10

Hmmm, I'm so undecided and unsure! We are really struggling for boys names and Nathanael is the only one we both love! I would use Than and a nn if that might make a difference??

I wouldn't rule it out. Especially if you will use the nickname than.

Elquota · 01/07/2013 23:53

A bit, yes.

2tired2bewitty · 02/07/2013 00:05

I know a Joanne with a Joseph and a Katherine with a Catriona so I don't think it would be a big worry, especially since I assume your name starts with a hard a sound whereas Nathaniel is softer (depending a little on how you pronounce it)

natandmat · 02/07/2013 10:05

Maybe I'm thinking into it a bit too much?? It's such a lovely name, and I'm finding boys names so much harder!!

Not in a rude way but why would it matter even if you had tried to name him after you- it's hardly a Nigel/Nigella situation with it only being a few letters. Do it!

FreedomOfTheTess · 02/07/2013 10:47

Not in my book. The names are not related in anyway, they has happen to start with the same three letters.

Nathanael/Nathaniel is a great name - I'm married to one! Wink

ClartyCarol · 02/07/2013 10:49

Yes you're overthinking it! It wouldn't occur to me at all. Have never seen spelled that way, only Nathaniel.

natandmat · 02/07/2013 17:45

Thank you all! I just prefer the Nathanael spelling, seems a bit more unusual? Freedom what does your husbands name her shortened to if you d
