What do you think of Blythe as a sister for Alice, James & Ellie?

sorry, no. horrible

JambalayaCodfishPie · 01/07/2013 17:18

I like it. But I have an equally marmite Nancy.

MortifiedAdams · 01/07/2013 17:18

I love love it. But I live near a place called Blyth so it would be a no no for me.

squoosh · 01/07/2013 17:20

It's a very East Coast preppy type name, like Blair or Sloan.

It's not really my taste but I kind of like it.

CointreauVersial · 01/07/2013 17:28

Nice! Unusual, but not weird.

AuntieBrenda · 01/07/2013 17:34

Love it. Do it.

quoteunquote · 01/07/2013 17:48

I like it

MummyMastodon · 01/07/2013 17:51

Google image search Blythe. It's a wildly fashionable big eyed doll.

Alisvolatpropiis · 01/07/2013 17:51

I like it.

It's Gywneth Paltrows mums name.

Ipp3 · 01/07/2013 17:54

East coast preppy? It's Scottish! I love it. I know a Blythe. Great name.

squoosh · 01/07/2013 17:58

I know it's Scottish in origin but it has an American Waspy feel to me.

Rhubarbgarden · 01/07/2013 17:58

Gilbert

Threetofour · 01/07/2013 18:02

I love it and I know 2 I think it's gorgeous

TallulahBetty · 01/07/2013 18:08

One of those names that I should hate but actually I quite like. I struggle to see it on a little baby, but on a grown up I like it.

lovesmileandlaugh · 01/07/2013 18:12

Love it, and I think it just fits with your other DC's names too!

I like it. Blythe danner is a great association.

AllegraLilac · 02/07/2013 01:52

Love it! Have Merle down on my list as similar.

Anjou · 02/07/2013 02:27

I adore Blythe! Connotations differ depending where you are, I guess. I'm in Scotland and whilst I've never met one here, it's definitely a name I associate with being Scottish more than 'East Coast preppy'??!!

The obvious association for me would be Blythe Spirit (wonderful Noel Coward play/film. Do see it if you've not before!).

Blythe was the top of my list when pregnant with DS1 & DS2. Wouldn't have been able to use it even if we'd had girls as our surname starts with a 'J'. (BJ is definitely a troublesome set of initials!). Grin

squoosh · 02/07/2013 10:32

'East coast preppy' in that surnames as girls' first names is/was a popular trend in that demographic. Names do travel.

Have never met a Scottish Blythe in all my time here, have met two American ones.

Edinbugger · 02/07/2013 10:34

I know 2 (both Scots). Think it's a lovely name. Wouldn't occur to me to think of it as American.

polkadotsrock · 02/07/2013 10:43

I get the American connection but it wouldn't change my liking of the name. Do it, goes with your other children too

NooMyx · 02/07/2013 17:12

My associations are Gilbert (and Anne and her kids in later books of course), and also the word blight, though not being even remotely Scottish I might be pronouncing the name wrong.
Having said that, I actually do like the name, so a thumbs up from me. Smile

TenthMuse · 02/07/2013 17:21

I quite like it. It's unusual while still feeling like a 'proper' name. Works on a child and an adult. A bit different in style from your other dcs' names, but it doesn't sound odd alongside them.
