I have decided today I really like the name Summer, But my baby girl is due in Novemeber... Will this sound ridiculous for a mid-winter baby? x

It's not great used as a name even for a summer baby, tbh.

Littlecherublegs · 01/07/2013 13:41

I'm not keen on the name either and I think it may seem a bit daft for a winter baby, sorry.

bugsybill · 01/07/2013 13:50

I like summer.

You could use Somer like Somerset. I think there is a river Somer too. Not too sure how I feel about that spelling though as it doesn't look quite right to me Confused

If you really like summer I would use I even though it is November. In the southern hemisphere it would nearly be summer :)

HystericalParoxysm · 01/07/2013 13:53

You can name your baby whatever you like. I wouldn't use Summer though, in the same way I wouldn't use Autumn for a summer baby.

Feelslikea1sttimer · 01/07/2013 14:03

I think that is what I thought too... I was so convinced I was having a boy, it has thrown me into a tizz now they have told me girl, I know I have 20 weeks to decide but I am panicking!!! Eek!!!

I think it's a pretty name, and fine to use it whenever you like Smile

Frikadellen · 01/07/2013 16:38

I think itis pretty and why wouldn't you have summer in theAutumn?

Cloudkitten · 01/07/2013 16:39

Any name at any time is your choice, but seeing as you've asked Smile it's had a moment of popularity but is all set to date in a fad kind of way and yes I would think Hmm naming a winter baby Summer. Sorry.

scarlettsmummy2 · 01/07/2013 16:41

Don't like it full stop

Feelslikea1sttimer · 01/07/2013 16:43

Thanks everyone...

I have moved on from this one, I am onto Elsie now, I think I will go through quite a few names in the next 4 and a bit months. It's great to get opinions though, thanks.

i love 'summer', but specifically didn't call dd it because she was born in january...

Onesleeptillwembley · 01/07/2013 16:50

Elsie used to be an old ladies name to me but the more I've heard it recently, the more it's grown on me. It really is a pretty name.Smile

DorisIsWaiting · 01/07/2013 17:07

Much prefer Elsie ( I know a small one and it really suits her)

Littlecherublegs · 01/07/2013 17:19

Prefer Elsie to Summer.

Also like Elsa.

wigglesrock · 01/07/2013 17:35

I prefer Summer, Autumn and Winter to Elsie. It's a purely personal thing but I just can't warm to Elsie as a name. I knew a baby Elsie, she's 3 now and the name never grew on me.

I much prefer Elsa but really like Elise.

Feelslikea1sttimer · 01/07/2013 18:10

Haha... I'm not sure winter will grow on me!

I can't stand Elise but I my because I know someone with a daughter called Elise and I can't stand the mother!

A friend named her daughter Summer about 7 years ago. I know it's supposed to be faddy & popular/common place but I've never actually met another. It's pretty and suits her. I know you say you've now moved on from this name, but you've got a wee while to go OP, so you may come back to it! Great suggestion from BugsyBill for 'Somer/Somerset'. That takes care of the seasonal problem too.

FWIW I can't stand Elsie. It's an 'old lady chic' name that - for me - is all old lady and no chic. Aside from that, I think it's super popular and will date quite quickly due to its sudden popularity and inevitably quick decline.

Good luck, OP! Smile

Elquota · 02/07/2013 08:38

How about Elisabeth with Elsie as nickname?

Feelslikea1sttimer · 02/07/2013 16:31

My Sister is Elizabeth so that wouldn't work.

I am very fickle when it comes to names, my 1st wasn't decided til I was in the labour ward and my 2nd didn't have a name for a week...
