I don't know what I'm having but as I have my girls name picked out which of these boys names would you prefer? (I'm Irish living in Ireland all are well known and easy to pronounce)

Tadhg
Séamus
Lorcan

Leaning towards Lorcan at the moment. Already have one little girl with an Irish name. Due in 5 weeks. Have a feeling its a girl anyway......so may never get to use any of the above

I like Lorcan the best, followed by Seamus. I don't dislike Tadhg but I definitely prefer the other two. I'm in Ireland too btw and there is a Tadhg in my dc's class and a Seamus in my other dc's class. I don't know any Lorcans. I see Lachlan on mn a lot but I don't like that. Lorcan rolls off the tongue in comparison with Lachlan. Good luck!

I love Seamus but I am biased as I taught an absolutely gorgeous one!

Séamus

I like Lorcan and Seamus, not sure how the last is pronounced?? What about Thaddeus?

MustafaCake · 28/06/2013 14:33

Lorcan is great.

Not sure how Tadhg is pronounced?

JoanHarris · 28/06/2013 15:34

Not sure how to write Tadhg phonetically (TYgue?)Sounds nice in an Irish accent not so harsh....Thanks for the responses. Lorcan definately growing on me. My husband likes Seamus - so do I but its very popular in both our families - it would probably get shortened to Seamie by my crowd.

Tadhg

I love Lorcan & I think it is less popular than either Seamus or Tadhg.

Knew a Tadhg in London who was Irish descent and absolutely no one knew how to pronouce his name until told. I love it. I also know a Cathal who has had to explain how to pronouce his name to Brits and now Americans (he lives there) all his life. He called his own sons Simon, Michael and John-Paul.

That's all. Choose what you love just be aware how unfamiliar some Irish names will be outside Ireland.

Anybody remember the Tadhg on Friends!? played by actor Eddie Cahill, but on friends they called him 'tag'. Grin
