Do you share the same name as a beloved family pet (dead or alive) and how do you feel about it?

I am considering the same but wouldnt want the child to be scarred for life?!

Go for it, your baby will end association with deceased pet. Our dd was going to be called George if she was a boy, I named our last cat George instead, hope that makes sense I'm knackered Confused

Lol thanks! Our cat is only young and will still be here (fingers crossed!) when/if we have a DD. She is very much a part of the family, she is adored. I love her name and wanted to use it, thought if I 'saved' it we would never end up having a girl. So its not really naming the child 'after' the pet, just sharing the same name we love

As long as the moggys not called Miss Tiggywiggle Mcwhiskas I think that's perfectly acceptable Smile. I love it when a cat has a good, strong name, it's a bit insulting for a cat to be called Binky Boo Boo or Snowy and names of that ilk Grin

My nephew has the same name as a dog my nana owned. Also, my dd has same name as my brother's cat. My mum actually said "you can't give a child the same name as a cat!". Thing is I'd liked the name (Tabitha) since I'd watched Bewitched as a child, so imo I called "dibs"! Seriously it's never caused any issue, my dd loves the name and the cat (at the age of 22) has died.

Go for it, unless pet is called Fluffy of course!!

I think it would be a very weird if the pet is still alive and would be sharing the same house! (Possibly very confusing for baby & cat too!)

DaveMccave · 28/06/2013 21:40

I think it's a bit odd but such a shame to not use a favourite name because of a pet! So I'd do it, but definitely change the pets name to something similar sounding. Dogs only know their name by rhyme anyway, and cats don't give a toss!

TiggerWearsATriteSmile · 28/06/2013 21:42

Ah for fucks sake.
Get a grip, do not name your child the same name as your pet.

TiggerWearsATriteSmile · 28/06/2013 21:43

If you want to keep the name don't call your fucking turtle John.

crashdoll · 28/06/2013 21:44

Honestly, I think the idea of calling a baby and cat who live in same house together the same name is very weird! Please don't do this!

lollydollydrop · 28/06/2013 21:50

Tigger you sound very angry and aggressive!

Maybe I should clarify that the cat never gets called the full name and goes by a nickname from it, so I would use the full name for a child

I gave my daughter a name that we used on a dog a few years ago but she's no longer here, I wouldn't have used it if she was.

DD has the same name as my 15 year old cat. I named the cat during my Bridget Jones years, knowing I would never have children and die alone anyway Grin

I have changed the cat's name though, she hasn't noticed.
