Still on the hunt for that elusive perfect boys' name - what about Brodie/Brody? How would you spell it? Is it too surnamey? Is it a dog's name? Is it 'too' American/Australian? TIA!

I love love love it! And it popped into my head purely because of Homeland (even though it's actually really his surname). It would def be on my list if we didn't already have one DS with a name beginning with B and the other with a Scottish name (we're not Scottish). I would def spell it Brodie though. Although I'm not entirely sure why other than that I do have a friend with a Brodie not a Brody.

Smilehappy · 24/06/2013 20:06

Brody also kind of looks like Broody lol .... I think I might spell our son like Brodie!! SmileGrin X

raisah · 24/06/2013 22:22

My next door neighbours dogs are called Brodie and Milo.

sundanceclaire · 24/06/2013 23:38

I really like it. Brodie = Girl, Brody = Boy. Go for it.

sleepingbeautiful · 25/06/2013 01:02

The only one I know is Canadian 15 and full of himself :p
I think it's a bit Home and Away character sounding, but it's an ok name if you want something 'cool' but not weird.

Onesleeptillwembley · 25/06/2013 01:52

Personally, I think it's awful (though not as bad as Brodie Leigh). Surnamey, American and yes, a pet's name. Really not good.

threefeethighandrising · 25/06/2013 01:58

I know a boy called Brodie, lovely name IMO.

Littleballofhate · 25/06/2013 01:59

Brody has Celtic origins..I think it is fab :)

bugsybill · 25/06/2013 07:52

I quite like it.

It is a little too 80s 90s for me but I think it would still suit a baby today. I prefer it for a boy name too.

bugsybill · 25/06/2013 07:53

Also prefer spelling brody

caz05 · 25/06/2013 08:10

I like it and would spell it Brody it was on my boy list for names.

EntWife · 25/06/2013 11:00

i quite like it but then i am Australian. Brody for a boy. Brodie for a girl.

dontyouwantmebaby · 26/06/2013 16:31

Brodie is a well-known boys' name in Scotland. I think its lovely, don't much like it spelled with a 'y' though.

beedles17 · 26/06/2013 21:47

brody means "ditch" in Irish Gaelic. no way would I call my child ditch.

Gugglebum · 26/06/2013 23:03

I like it a lot for a boy. Not so keen on the meaning. I know and 8 year old and a man in his late 30's (who used to work for my Dad) called Brody, and suits both of them.

MavisSnapdragon · 26/06/2013 23:57

The name of my dog when I was little. He was a great dog!

Lurleene · 27/06/2013 00:08

It makes me think of Jackson Brody from the books and Case Histories series. I think it is an unusual but completely normal sounding first name IYSWIM. i.e out of the ordinary, but it sounds like a real name!Grin

Lurleene · 27/06/2013 00:12

Oh, and I really like it. (Forgot to mention that bit!)

nooka · 27/06/2013 00:21

I'd not be at all surprised if there were a few Brodies/Brodys at my children's schools (we are in Canada) but to me it sounds surname/doggish and is also pretty androgenous. However I don't think any child called Brodie or Brody would stand out as unusual in the UK as surnames as first names seem popular for both boys and girls.

Moonandstars124 · 23/03/2023 05:18

Please can people help with 3 or 4 letter boys names that go well with Jack

barca123 · 23/03/2023 06:34

Really like it - v cool and surfery!

FayCarew · 23/03/2023 19:17

Miss Jean Brodie. Creepy book.

PurpleAirGuitar · 23/03/2023 20:14

I quite like it and see it as mainly a boy's name, whichever way you spell it. You wouldn't argue that Jamie, Charlie or Laurie should be spelt with a Y for a boy.

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 23/03/2023 20:41

I think of Brody from The Hills.

Sugarfree23 · 24/03/2023 00:21

@Moonandstars124
You might be better starting a new thread this one is rather old.

Mathew Jack
Peter Jack

Somehow Jack is fitting better as a middle name to me although Jack Brodie sounds ok
