Is Beatrix always shortened to Bea?

I think its one of those names that is always shortened by nearly everyone so it would be pointless naming the child Beatrix, even though I love the name.

What do you think?

I know a Beatrix that is always shortened to Trixie.

Dackyduddles · 22/06/2013 15:04

Betty?

RandomMess · 22/06/2013 15:05

I would say Trixie

bootsycollins · 22/06/2013 21:19

I know a Trixie too, I love it, very 1950's.

Jojay · 22/06/2013 21:20

One I know is BeaBea or Bea.

VBisme · 22/06/2013 21:20

Trixie here as well

Alisvolatpropiis · 22/06/2013 21:38

I would definitely go with Trixie if I named a daughter Beatrix.

CruCru · 22/06/2013 21:45

Beatty

MrsCampbellBlack · 22/06/2013 21:47

I have a Beatrice and she is either Bea, BeaBea, Beatrice or Bumblebee.

But I also know a Beatrix who is always Beatrix. And that's because teh 4 year old insists on it Smile

The Beatrix I know is always called Trixie.

jamtoast12 · 22/06/2013 22:04

It def think it'll be shortened and much prefer Bea, Trixie is less pretty/girly IMO

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 22/06/2013 22:08

It depends on whether you want the name to be shortened. My DD is called Evelyn and she's always Evelyn, never Evie. She's seven and she tells people off if they mistakenly call her Evie.

Personally, I'd say Trixie for Beatrix. Bea for me is Beatrice.

bugsybill · 23/06/2013 07:30

I also think Bee/ bea (bee-ah) would be short for Beatrice and trix/trixy short for Beatrix. But you can do what you like :)

I have heard people muddling the pronunciations of these names which is one reason why I would personally stay away.

Particularly a Beatriz (her mother Portuguese clearly pronounced it bee-ah-treez) but people were calling her Beatrix/Beatrice Confused. But this might not bother you.

bugsybill · 23/06/2013 07:34

Sorry misread your question, definitely doesn't need shortening! I know several people who go by their full 4 syllable names and never shorten so there is no need. Just say she is called beatrix.

ShabbyButNotChic · 23/06/2013 20:46

I went to school with a beatrix, she started of as trix, then tricky...then tricky dicky....then tricky martin...poor girl haha! You cant control nicknames unfortunately..one of my female friends has been referred to as nigel for the last 10years or so..nobody can remember why

Bowlersarm · 23/06/2013 20:50

I just know Beatrix/Beatrice called Bea. Three of them.

sleepingbeautiful · 23/06/2013 22:26

I know a Beatrice who is Bea (bee), a Beatrice who is Bette, and a Beatriz who is Bea (Bay-a)
