Seraphina or China? Opinions?

Which one would be your choice out of Seraphina or China?
Honestly are these a bit too way out or do you think they are acceptable to use as first names?

They're both pretty awful, sorry. Seraphina is better than China though.

apreciousbabygirl · 20/06/2013 20:45

Seraphina it is then!

Have heard a few Seraphina's round here and think it is just pushing the boundaries of too-poshness. China is just daft.

CruCru · 20/06/2013 21:21

China is not a name. Seraphina is, although not to my taste.

IHeartKingThistle · 20/06/2013 21:23

I've taught a couple of teenage Chinas. They were both terrifying.

Just saying. Grin

LondonBus · 20/06/2013 21:28

China sounds much, much nicer than Seraphina, which just sounds awful.

IWillDoItInAMinute · 20/06/2013 21:30

Seraphina definitely, serafina Pekkala being a fav character from northern lights Grin

invicta · 20/06/2013 21:32

Serephna - yes, china - no

DramaAlpaca · 20/06/2013 21:32

Seraphina is OK, China is awful.

LifeIsBetterInFlipFlops · 20/06/2013 21:38

Seraphina's ok, not my taste, but China is dreadful.

LondonBus · 20/06/2013 21:46

I'd always want to say "Ello me old China" if I knew someone called China.

bugsybill · 20/06/2013 22:27

I knew a lovely seraphina. She went by sera for short.

I much prefer it to china.

Have you thought about India?

raisah · 20/06/2013 22:43

Seraphina.

Why did you choose these two particular names? Just curious to know if there are any connections, special ir otherwise.

burberryqueen · 20/06/2013 23:02

Seraphina/China?

apreciousbabygirl · 20/06/2013 23:10

Bugsybill - yes I have considered India. I really like it actually, I'm not even sure why it didn't make it to the final short list Confused

Seraphina is beautiful - classic, feminine and not overused.

China or India could work but I still associate these very much with the countries.

AllegraLilac · 23/06/2013 16:02

I hate China, but actually quite like India. I wonder why that is.

Alisvolatpropiis · 23/06/2013 16:06

Seraphina by all the country miles.

I don't think you have to have "roots" in a country to use the name but intensely dislike China as a given name.

The only "place name" I like is India.

fussychica · 23/06/2013 16:08

Indira / Andina if you like India but don't want a place name.

Madondogs · 23/06/2013 16:21

My daughter was in nursery with a girl named Chynna, when we asked her the names of the children in her class she said there was someone named glassGrin

KnittedWaffle · 23/06/2013 16:33

Not keen on either TBH

China sounds odd as a name and Seraphina sounds pretentious.

Alisvolatpropiis · 23/06/2013 16:33

Knitted why does it sound pretentious? Genuinely interested.

I'm fairly sure most of the names I like would be considered pretentious

KnittedWaffle · 23/06/2013 17:12

Alisvolat - it's ok, that's just my opinion and I don't expect anyone to agree Grin

To my ears it's a little bit 'try hard' or fussy (although i do like the meaning)
There are other names that I consider in a similar vein that don't sound that way - Persephone for example.
Seraphine sounds better to me.

Alisvolatpropiis · 23/06/2013 17:14

It's ok - it's just my dp also says the names I like sound pretentious, I just wondered if it was a particular thing about the names I like Smile
