Its a family name (eatern European)

Could I use it? Even as a middle name?
Could Rudy be an acceptable nickname?

Don't. Life's tough enough without that...

Go for Rudyard.

Rudy is brilliant.

Depends where you live. My part of London so diverse no one gets teased for their name

I quite like Rudolph and Rudyard, but you cannot name a person Rudy in an english speaking country because it implies he is very Rude!!

othersideofchannel · 04/07/2013 11:01

I can just imagine his primary aged peers singing Rudy the Rude one, Rudy the Rude one... Grin. Sorry, but I really feel that it would be a little cruel.

"stocking tops and legalodes and.....RUDIES" we sang at our girls' grammar school if someone's skirt was too short [late 50s].

MyThumbsHaveGoneWeird · 04/07/2013 13:56

There was a Rudy at school with me. He never got teased about his name.

I'm surprised not everyone hears the 'rude' part in rudy. It's like calling someone nicey or baddy, isn't it. Unless you, after a while don't think of that and just think of the person, but still.

I have a German uncle called Rudolf nickname Rudi, but in German it has no meaning of course. So it does work in non-English speaking languages imo.

Love love love Rudy.

Alisvolatpropiis · 04/07/2013 19:10

I don't understand the love for Rudy.

I'm with others here.
