using your own middle name

Hello...

Well the title is pretty self explanatory :)

Is it unusual /weird to name your daughter your own middle name?

My middle name is Elizabeth and whilst I'm not keen on it as a middle name I would love to call my daughter this as a first name. Not 'after myself' or a family name or anything, I just like it!

Any thoughts?

I don't see anything wrong with hisar all. I considered doing the same thing with my middle name but I had a boy I the end! Think Elizabeth is lovely and gives you lots of options for abbreviations Smile

woody2313 · 19/06/2013 11:08

this at all - sorry!

AnotherLovelyCupOfCoffee · 19/06/2013 11:28

Not unusual. I did this, sort of. Don't want to out myself but supposing my middle name was....... Louise, I called my dd Louisa.

Arwhen · 19/06/2013 13:35

Hmm, men do it all the time, even with their first names. I personally find that practice a bit weird (naming a child as/after yourself) but as you say you don't actually want to name her after yourself, just use the name, I guess that's ok.

MortifiedAdams · 19/06/2013 13:47

I wouldnt discount my mn based on it being my mn. I quite like mine (Nadine), so would consider using it.

Elizabeth is a lovely name.

RaRaZ · 19/06/2013 15:09

Don't see why not :-) If you're known as, for example, Sarah-Elizabeth or Anna-Elizabeth (which I'm assuming from your post you're not), it might be a bit odd: 'Anna-Elizabeth and her daughter Elizabeth', but otherwise, why the hell not :-)

SupermansBigRedPants · 19/06/2013 16:48

My dds middle name is my middle name, now she's older i do sometimes wish i'd used it as her first name. Elizabeth is lovely :)

UniqueAndAmazing · 19/06/2013 16:52

Why not.

It's a good way of making a family tradition.

DH's middle name happens to be my favourite boy's name in the world ever, so if we ever have a boy, that's what we'll use.

and DD's name is a variant of my middle name (and also a variant of my Grandma's name, which is why I have that middle name)

UniqueAndAmazing · 19/06/2013 16:53

and Elizabeth is a fabulous name (can't use it myself because I don't like having the same initials in the same household and we've already used E)

LittleBearPad · 19/06/2013 16:55

Elizabeth is a great name. We used it for DD's middle name and I kind of wish we hadn't so if we had another dd we could still use it.

Thurlow · 19/06/2013 16:55

We'll be using one of DP's middle names as one of any future DSs middle names. DP would have it as a first name if he could, but I exercised the veto no child of mine is being called Douglas

IfUSeekAmy · 19/06/2013 16:58

My DH wanted to use a longer version of my first name for DD3 but I wasn't sure so we used it as her middle name instead. It was too similar, in a sort of here is Helen and her baby Helena way!

farmersdaughter · 19/06/2013 18:02

DD has my middle name as her name.

Very few people know and those that do, always mention how nice it is that we 'share' a family name.

Elquota · 19/06/2013 19:43

Nothing wrong with that, if it's a name you'd really like to use.

cucumberkaleidascope · 19/06/2013 21:21

Thanks everyone, not many people know my middle name anyway so yes, why the hell not! Thanks!!

Unless you tell people, only family will know anyway. I think Elizabeth is a great name

ShadowStorm · 20/06/2013 16:33

I don't think it's weird to use your middle name for your DD's name.

Most people, other than family, don't know what other people's middle names are anyway.
