Middle names not given

I didn't give my son a middle name, but now I wish I had

Is it silly for me to want to add one? He's 21 months?

No I don't think it is silly, he won't know any different and you would prefer it.

How easy is it do add one at his age?

Add one by deed poll. I think middle names are very handy and will be useful if he wants to use one when he is older.

I know someone who's mother gave her son an extra middle name when he was nearly 30! Now that's odd.

At this stage no. Do it!

Turniptwirl · 19/06/2013 22:52

Surely at 30 the son should pick his own if he wanted one!

For a baby, absolutely fine

I keep dithering about adding another to DS1's name - he is nearly five btw. He has one middle name but DS2 has two and so will DS3.

Middle names aren't necessarily useful to their owners, unless in later life they want to abandon their first name for some reason but without the hassle of a deed poll.

IME and O middle names are mainly an opportunity for parents to honour or remember family or other significant people, particularly the dearly departed.

Hmm, i would do it as whilst they are rarely used i know from personal experience if you happen to give the younger one child a middle/2 middle names etc and the older jealous of everything the younger one has reasonable or not one no/less middle names some fecking batty siblings can take offence Hmm my dcs all have one middle name and that's their lot Grin
