If I introduce my dd as Elodie Grace, what's your first thought?

Hello!

I'm narrowing our short list and Elodie Grace is the current front runner ( only thing is that the front runner seems to change every other day). Just wondering what your first thought on that name is.

Also, what would you be likely to end up shortening it to in time, if anything?

Thanks in advance!

Oh, and she is always known to her friends as 'Elodie'. I've never heard anyone shorten it, so it's by no means inevitable.

lottiegarbanzo · 14/06/2013 12:28

First reaction, that's a very gentle, elegant name.

sherbetpips · 14/06/2013 12:34

Most will probably say Melody but its a nice name, prefer Grace as the first name though.

AmandaPandtheTantrumofDoom · 14/06/2013 12:57

Pretty name.

If I met you without your daughter and you said 'she's called Elodie Grace' I would be certain she was aged 0-4 though. Elodie has ballooned in recent years. And Grace (and Rose) are very much the middle names du jour. Not a bad thing, but depends if it bothers you.

lljkk · 14/06/2013 13:02

First thought:
How do you say Elodie? "'Ello Dee?" or "Ella-dee" or rhyme with Melody....?
2nd thought: it will be mispelt often, as well as mis-spoken.
3rd: I envy kids with short simple names when it comes to learning to write them & recognise them. Not to mention say them (DS2 had speech delay & could not say own name clearly until like... nearly 7?)
4th: none of that matters very much, am firmly in the If-you-love-it-go-for-it-camp.

ps: I think Theodora shortened to Teddy would be very sweet.

AmIGoingMad · 14/06/2013 13:34

It's said Ello dee but I can see what you're saying. I'm aware that its becoming more popular but I have only met a 30 yr old Elodie in France at this point in time. I am wondering if I would get a bit annoyed with people saying ella dee but hopefully this would be mostly remedied with verbal introductions.

Love it. I know 2 Elodies and neither are shortened to Ellie. One is occasionally called DeeDee.

josiejay · 14/06/2013 13:53

I love it - would have liked it for DD but didn't hear it till after she'd already been named in my head iykwim. Since then I've heard it a lot so I think it's shot up in popularity this year - if you're bothered about that, I'm not.

SixPackWellies · 14/06/2013 13:56

Love the name. It is gentle, elegant, seems almost spiritual. Lovely.

peachypips · 14/06/2013 13:56

My honest first thought, and I hope you're not offended. I would think, oh, another person trying to use an unusual name, and not another one with grace as a middle name!
Sorry. This is what I would genuinely be thinking. However, I actually like the names!

FeegleFion · 14/06/2013 13:56

Elodie Grace, what a beautiful name Smile

ExcuseTypos · 14/06/2013 13:58

I really like it.

If you want her Nn to br Eddie, just keep calling her that and everyone else will catch on.

ShinyPenny · 14/06/2013 13:59

Didn't someone say recently here that they got a letter to Lodelodie, when they said over the phone they would spell their name?

MrTumblesBavarianFanbase · 14/06/2013 14:08

I would wonder whether you were expecting both names to be used at all times, and hope you weren't. Elodie is nice but personally I find people who insist on 2 first names for everyday use self important and annoying. ;) The names are both pretty, just don't use both all the time :)

siluria · 14/06/2013 14:16

I would think 'what a pretty name'. And I would say so :)

FriskyMare · 14/06/2013 14:22

I quite like Edie.

GobblersKnob · 14/06/2013 14:25

I'd think wow, that's three I know now (next door 8 months and one in dd's reception class).

AmIGoingMad · 14/06/2013 14:30

Not offended peachy! I asked for opinions and you gave yours Smile

And no, I definitely wouldn't be using both names. Her name would be Elodie with Grace as a middle name but not often said aloud unless in a ' whole name get her attention' kind of way. I've always had a strange feeling about the concept of middle names. In some ways I feel like they can be superfluous as they don't tend to get used much. But in other ways the name doesn't feel complete without a first name, middle name and surname. But that might just be me!

I really like Elodie, but in general I am not keen on 2 names.

I am loving Theodora shortened to Teddy

Madamecastafiore · 14/06/2013 14:40

Oh no Franca. That's dh's fave name and nn but I am so not sure.

MrsOakenshield · 14/06/2013 14:40

first thought was Melody without the M? Sounded almost like an h was dropped - so 'ello not hello. Not keen. Don't really like Grace either!

Ragwort · 14/06/2013 14:44

Lovely name. Smile

I love Grace as a middle name, that would have been our DD's middle name if she hadn't been a boy Grin.

TheYamiOfYawn · 14/06/2013 14:46

You could also shorten it to Lola.

Francagoestohollywood · 14/06/2013 14:47

Sorry Madame Smile. English is not my first language so my perception of English names might be a bit "different"!

Shame that I am to old too have one more dc, otherwise I'd steal so many names on these threads... Grin

saintlyjimjams · 14/06/2013 14:50

I like Elodie with Grace as a middle name but not Elodie-Grace. Too much of a mouthful.

I like Edie and Ellie as well though.
