No don't like it, doesn't even sound like a real word, just more like a sound or a noise iykwim
Sorry Hmm

Jenda · 09/06/2013 18:21

I think of nymphomaniac, sorry Shock

OneStepCloser · 09/06/2013 18:22

I know a Nimroy, he's Jamaican, suits him.

OneStepCloser · 09/06/2013 18:23

Doh, sorry, of course it suits him, it's his name Blush

SorrelForbes · 09/06/2013 18:24

As in Henry V play? I like it.

SoupDragon · 09/06/2013 18:25

As in Nym's Island?

I think it sounds made up and as if it is missing something.

nulgirl · 09/06/2013 18:26

Makes me think Nym - short for nympho.

Sorry

Smartiepants79 · 09/06/2013 18:27

Sounds like a nickname. Reminds me of nymphandora from Harry potter.

TheRealFellatio · 09/06/2013 18:32

It's bonkers. It sounds like a made up name for a character in a fantasy book.

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 09/06/2013 18:36

It is a made up name,it's Shakespearean.

Made me think of that book, The Rats of Nimh. (Anyone else remember that?!)

badtime · 09/06/2013 21:33

Made me think of Nymeria from 'A Song of Ice and Fire' (there is a character called Nymeria, known as Nym, who hasn't appeared in 'Game of Thrones' yet).

Smartiepants79 · 09/06/2013 21:36

I do betty read it at school. Great story!

squoosh · 09/06/2013 21:53

I too thought nym(phomaniac).

I'm ashamed.

DialMforMummy · 09/06/2013 21:55

I like it. Never heard it before. For a boy or a girl?

Timeforabiscuit · 09/06/2013 21:56

Nooo project nim - that film has scarred me and was the first thing I thought of

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 09/06/2013 21:56

I quite like Nymeria actually. Although I read it Nigh mere ia. And am not so keen on Ny as a nickname.

500internalerror · 09/06/2013 21:57

Mrs Frisbee.....

SorrelForbes · 09/06/2013 22:11

I remember that book. He also wrote The Silver Crown.

Nym is mentioned in the Boy's speech in Henry V:

As young as I am, I have observed these three swashers. I am boy to all three; but all three, though they would serve me, could not be man to me; for indeed three such antics do not amount to a man. For Bardolph, he is white-livered and red-faced; by the means whereof 'a faces it out, but fights not. For Pistol, he hath a killing tongue and a quiet sword; by the means whereof 'a breaks word and keeps whole weapons. For Nym, he hath heard that men of few words are the best men, and therefore he scorns to say his prayers, lest 'a should be thought a coward; but his few bad words are matched with as few good deeds, for 'a never broke any man's head but his own, and that was against a post when he was drunk. They will steal anything, and call it purchase. Bardolph stole a lute-case, bore it twelve leagues, and sold it for three halfpence. Nym and Bardolph are sworn brothers in filching, and in Calais they stole a fire-shovel. I knew by that piece of service the men would carry coals. They would have me as familiar with men's pockets as their gloves or handkerchers; which makes much against my manhood, if I should take from another's pocket to put into mine; for it is plain pocketing up of wrongs. I must leave them and seek some better service. Their villainy goes against my weak stomach, and therefore I must cast it up.

(I know this as it's Petrova's m'audition speech in Ballet Shoes)

squeak2392 · 10/06/2013 00:00

I met a girl called Lyn once and misheard it as Nim. Thought it was odd but accepted it cos she was Asian :P

I think it's definitely a little odd, but I like it :)

Nessalina · 10/06/2013 00:23

Wow Sorrel, I'd totally forgotten about the Ballet Shoes - I loved that story when I was a kid! Petrova's a lovely name actually Grin
I also thought Mrs Frisbee & the Rats of Nym (Nimh) but I do think it's a nice name. It has an impish quality! Though I like names that can be shortened, so I'd like it as a nickname for a longer name (love Nymeria!). It also sounds female to me, so not a name for a boy I'd say!

HibiscusIsland · 10/06/2013 00:38

Nymphomaniac
