WDYT? I've had a bad response on it before but I really do like it. Plus, I've always loved the nn Gwen and this is the only name which it could possibly come from that I actually like.

I don't like Gwendolen/yn and although I like Guinevere it just doesn't feel right for me. Also, just in case you're thinking the nn should be Gwin - I don't like Gwin either :P

I'm not Welsh but I've lived in Wales for 8-ish years now and I feel comfortable using it even if I were to live elsewhere, for those of you who are bothered by that sort of thing :P

All comments appreciated :) TY!

And just in case it's not clear - I like Gwyneth regardless of whether or not she'd get called Gwen. Gwen isn't a reason, just a plus :)

I think Gwyneth is a lovely name. It has a lovely sound to it when you say it.
You will get lots of people thinking you named DC after Gwyneth Paltrow, but if you really like the name, it doesn't matter what other people think. It's your DC and you get to choose.

Anyway, if the nn is Gwen, then she'll probably be called this far more than Gwyneth.

BlueStarsAtNight · 08/06/2013 08:15

I wouldn't choose it myself but wouldn't raise an eyebrow if I heard someone use it! I think it's got a pretty sound to it.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 08/06/2013 18:40

I don't know if it's dated in Wales but it sounds wholesome, "the most beautiful woman in 2013" is called it, I certainly wouldn't find it ugly, offensive or unpleasant.

Bue · 08/06/2013 18:43

I think it's utterly beautiful. And if people do have the Paltrow assocation, well, there are far worse people to be associated with!

BrokenBanana · 08/06/2013 18:49

I don't love it, but I don't hate it either. If you both like it then go for it!

fussychica · 08/06/2013 19:11

Really nice name - go for it.

Elquota · 08/06/2013 21:36

I think it sounds a little frumpy if I'm honest. No idea why - just personal taste I guess.

serin · 08/06/2013 22:41

Love it and it sounds even better in a Welsh accent.

mysterymeg · 08/06/2013 23:19

I know a Gweneth who goes by Gwen which is similar to Gwyneth but slightly different - she's the only one I've heard of.

Beehatch · 08/06/2013 23:27

Can you not just use Gwen?

It can also be a nn for Gwenan and Gwenhwyfor (the Welsh variant of Guinevere)

Beehatch · 08/06/2013 23:28

Oh and Gwenllian too

iclaudius · 08/06/2013 23:34

Love love love it

Alisvolatpropiis · 08/06/2013 23:39

I like it,quite a lot. As others have said, there are worse "namesakes" than Ms Paltrow.

wilkos · 08/06/2013 23:39

Love it Smile beautiful. Traditional but unusual.

TobyLerone · 08/06/2013 23:56

Why don't you just call her Gwen?

I wouldn't use Gwyneth myself because I think Gwyneth Paltrow is a giant twat, but it's not an awful name.

poorbuthappy · 09/06/2013 00:03

We have a Gwen.
Just Gwen.
The registrar asked, Gwendolyne, Gywneth?
No I said, just Gwen.

mathanxiety · 09/06/2013 01:02

Lovely name, and Gwen is lovely too, just on its own.

squoosh · 09/06/2013 02:16

It's a fussy and dusty name.
