No, not for me. Reminds me of eugenism.

Elquota · 05/06/2013 23:46

How would you pronounce Eugenie?

I heard the Duchess of York pronounce it YOU-jen-ee on television. I was surprised as I'd always assumed it was you-JANE-ee (and have heard presenters say it that way).

Redbindy · 05/06/2013 23:47

Euthenasia sounds OK.

Vijac · 05/06/2013 23:49

Reminds me of the geeky one in Grease! But Georgia is lovely. Smile

Euthanasia :I

Eugene makes me think of Hey Arnold (shows my youthfulness).

Like the girls names though :)

YummyMummybee · 06/06/2013 00:02

I'd pronounce it you-gee-nee, I really do love it, not sure if it goes too well with my little dd Molly but I love it! Keep the opinions coming sounds like it's not the most popular choice on here!!!

Prefer Yev-gen-iya pronunciation with Russian spelling.

Sunnysummer · 06/06/2013 04:17

I went to school with an absolutely gorgeous Eugenie - pronounced Yoo-gee-nee, and nicknamed Genie by everyone - so I have very positive associations!

SleepyCatOnTheMat · 06/06/2013 08:45

I think Georgia goes with Molly a bit better - they both have a modern feel - but I really like Eugenie, pronounced you-jean-ie, Genie for short. The only thing is as a former developmental psychology student it makes me think of that girl who suffered terrible abuse as a child, an infamous case study was written about her (google Genie and deprivation and you'll be able to find her story). Desperately sad stuff.

Laquila · 06/06/2013 08:54

I think they're both lovely names, and the only real associatIon I would have with them is Princess Eugenie. I've always assumed the latter was dpronunced Yoo-JEEN-ie but also like the French way of saying it was Yoo- JZHAYN-ie.

I think it would be rare that people would make SleepyCat's association, and I certainly wouldn't thnk of Euthanasia.

SleepyCatOnTheMat · 06/06/2013 11:16

I think what people up thread meant to say was not euthanasia but eugenics, i.e. the 'improvement' of the human race through dodgy measures such as knocking off people with learning disabilities, as practiced by the Nazis during WW2.

Off the top of my head here are some other names you might like OP.

Elodie
Rosalie
Amelie
Aurelie
Ottilie
Eulalie (pronounced you-la-lee)

Cordelia
Cornelia
Amelia
Virginia
Euphemia (Effy for short)
Eustacia (Stacy for short)

I always feel sorry for Eugenie and Beatrice that were lumbered with such frumpy names.

Laquila · 06/06/2013 12:09

SleepyCat that would make more sense, good point! Although until you'd mentioned to I wouldn't have associated Eugenie with that either. From your list I love Cordelia, Rosalie, Aurelie.

I don't think either Beatrice or Eugenie is a frumpy name.

SleepyCatOnTheMat · 06/06/2013 16:55

No, I like Beatrice too. Another suggestion: Ophelia.

Fenton · 06/06/2013 16:58

I know someone called Eugenia, was shortened very quickly to Gina. One of her school friends saw her proper name on a paper and misread it...

she was there after known as Iguana until she left school

No no and no again.

amandine07 · 06/06/2013 17:31

I don't mind Eugenie...I think Eugenia is a bit too much.

CruCru · 07/06/2013 09:11

I love this (and started a thread on it) but no one else seemed to like it much (and it was never getting past DH).

CruCru · 07/06/2013 09:12

I prefer Eugenia but I do prefer girls names that end in an a.

iseenodust · 07/06/2013 09:21

I know an adult Eugenia. Nice lady, American.
