Alfred.

I like it, if it's not shortened, though was secretly hoping he would call him Simon!

I really like Alfred!

Good choice

CPtart · 05/06/2013 19:11

Don't like it but its better than Alfie!

SleepyCatOnTheMat · 05/06/2013 19:54

Alfred...is ok. It's a bit more out there than I was expecting, a bit old man chic, considering he said his DS would have a very uncontroversial name.

WinkyWinkola · 05/06/2013 19:56

I love Alfred. No Alfie. Fred or Alf. But prefer Alfred. Great.

TheHerringScreams · 05/06/2013 20:09

I like it. DD2 got to meet him after a competition thing a year and a half ago, and he was very kind and lovely to all the children there, so I'm a fan of him anyway.

And I close Alfred a lot too. I love Alfie for a nickname, but when he's older, he can go by the more serious Alfred, or the more unique Red (as a friend is nicknamed).

TheHerringScreams · 05/06/2013 20:10

And I like

It's not exactly my top choice of name I admit, I prefer more popular names in general, and not the slightly more old fashioned name style, ut it's nice all the same.

meglet · 05/06/2013 20:15

Aw, I like it.

Bue · 05/06/2013 20:57

Not nearly as bad as I was expecting. It's a good, solid name.

lljkk · 06/06/2013 07:49

I wanted Alfred, don't like Alfie, though.

surroundedbyblondes · 06/06/2013 07:51

DD2 has a friend called Alfred. It's a great name Grin

Picturepuncture · 06/06/2013 07:52

I like it too. Nickname options are good and could serve lots of different types of person!

outtolunchagain · 06/06/2013 08:00

Nice sensible traditional name , unusual enough that there unlikely to be more than one or two in the class at school .all my boys have friends called Alfred and there are several good derivatives.

flipchart · 06/06/2013 10:09

It was my grandad's name.
It's ok.

sleepingbeautiful · 06/06/2013 10:15

I think it's a bit of a drippy name for my tastes, but on the other hand it's normal, and always good to hear celebs picking sensible names not stupid made up / mispelled / "kool" names.

picnicbasketcase · 06/06/2013 10:17

Quite nice really. Better than the Pomegranate / Stormcloud / Deckchair type celeb baby names.

TheRealFellatio · 06/06/2013 10:21

I detest the name Alfie. I hope they call him Freddie for short.

birdsandbees123 · 06/06/2013 10:27

DS2's second name is Alfred. It's a family name on my paternal side. Love it put don't like 'Alfie'.

squoosh · 06/06/2013 10:58

Alfred makes me think of men shaped and dressed like the Fat Controller from Thomas the Tank Engine.

Justfornowitwilldo · 06/06/2013 13:05

Alfred is lovely. And I'd say Lara Stone and her DH have called their baby Alfred Grin

girliefriend · 06/06/2013 13:08

Like it, was my Grandads name!!

MamaChubbyLegs · 06/06/2013 13:55

My DS (10 weeks) is Alfred.

I don't like it when the nurse calls him in as "Alfie". That's not his name!

squoosh · 06/06/2013 14:06

I think it's natural for people to call a tiny Alfred Alfie!

It'll definitely happen when he's in school so best to steel your nerves now.

hellokitty123 · 06/06/2013 14:14

I don't mind Alfred. But I really dislike Alfie.

pumpkinsweetie · 06/06/2013 14:15

I love David Walliams, but not so keen on Alfred personally but i can see why they have chosen it as it is a good solid name. I like Alfie myself

Pancakeflipper · 06/06/2013 14:15

I like it. I like that it can be shortened if they wish but that they stuck to the 'proper' full name for the birth cert ( I am soooo old fashioned)
