What do you think?

Charles Edward Hugh

or

James Edward Hugh

Surname starts with 'M' and is 3 syllables.

I did just think of having Hugh as the only middle name, however I felt esp with James, James Hugh seemed a bit short or unfinished.

Looking for a classic but not overly popular name, suggestions very welcome.

Lantern DD name starts with an 'H' hence not keen on having another 'H'. Does it matter.

Hugh is my brother, so it might be a bit odd.

Don't think Jamie is naughty. Never come across that before. Mind you I discounted Freddie for our DS even though I liked the name, because every Freddie I've ever met, across the generations, has been 'challenging'. Maybe it's just a case of personal association.

Btw you could shorten Edward to Ned or Ted/Teddy, instead of Ed.

James.

James Theodore Hugh
James Elliot Hugh
James Leonard Hugh

Have you considered Hugo rather than Hugh? It just opens options more as flows better ( IMO)

James Hugo Edward M
