Being very indecisive at nearly 40 weeks and swaying from one name to other!

But at the moment we love Robyn Jessica.

Does it sound nice? (Jessica as a middle name, and our surname begins with S and has 2 syllabuls).

What a great name! I think Robyn is always the feminine (and much nicer) version, Robin the masculine. I read a book once and the heroine was Robyn nn Robbie, I have loved the name for a girl ever since.

Robyn Jessica sounds absolutely fine. I prefer Robyn Isobel.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 30/05/2013 11:48

I'd go for Robyn Jessica.

I don't have a problem with unisex names I just see Robyn and think oh a female, or Robin as in Robin Hood, or Robin Redbreast, a male.

DonDrapersAltrEgoBigglesDraper · 30/05/2013 11:52

I know an 80-year old woman named Robin, so I don't think the 'y' version is necessarily traditionally female.

ShowOfHands · 30/05/2013 11:58

People are desperate to make unisex names conform to different spelling rules atm. I see it on Darcy/Darcey/Darcie threads where interestingly, the y spelling is for boys apparently.

I get particularly cross with Sasha for a girl, Sacha for a boy thing I've seen recently too. Sacha/Sascha/Sasha is a boys name however you spell it but this weird and arbitrary rule has started to creep in. The different spellings are actually from different countries.

Anyway, I do like the name Robin and I think it goes with any of the middle names you like.

ShowOfHands · 30/05/2013 11:59

I know a Robina btw Grin

My middle name is Robyn and I would always think Y for a girl and i for a boy. I like Robyn Jessica the best. With Robyn Isobel you would then hope she doesn't marry someone who's surname begins with a P

BikeRunSki · 30/05/2013 12:46

Regardless of the origin, it is modern convention to use Robyn for girls and Robin for boys. Since they sound the same, why saddle her with a lifetime of people expecting her to be a he?

NomDeClavier · 30/05/2013 12:54

Robin Ysobel

Sorted Wink

The I/y convention annoys me too. I think it's just taste tbh.

kelda · 30/05/2013 13:38

'it is modern convention to use Robyn for girls and Robin for boys.'

Is it? I know three Robins. One is male, two are female.

I have never met a Robyn.

MissTweed · 30/05/2013 13:52

I know 3 male robins (30+) and 2 female Robyns (30's) so the y thing has been around for a while

MoelFammau · 30/05/2013 13:57

I have a DD called Robin. She was named for the bird and I didn't want Robyn because it didn't have the same meaning. It's not as if you'd use Ravyn rather than Raven, is it?

BUT nearly everyone insists on writing it Robyn. I don't care but if it bothers you, bear it in mind!

Cocodale · 30/05/2013 13:58

Love it, very pretty x

mummyTP2 · 30/05/2013 14:15

Both lovely names but don't quite think they flow very smoothly if that makes sence but its completely your choice

BumpAndGrind · 30/05/2013 14:41

Toni /Tony Y is for the boy...it all bullshit.

fussychica · 30/05/2013 16:24

All nice - choose whichever combo goes best with your surname,

Turniptwirl · 30/05/2013 16:32

I know sisters Robyn and Jessica and the names are lovely together

I prefer the y spelling for a girl too

chickensaladagain · 30/05/2013 16:35

Many moons ago there was an episode of grange hill where they had a foreign teacher with a female name in english but it was a male name in his country, so they all played a trick on him by swapping names around

There was a girl called Robyn who refused to join in but the teacher told her off saying he knew Robyn was a boys name. She explained that Robyn with a y is female so that theory had been around at least 30 years

and I have no idea why I remember that particular episode

NowPlayingZone · 30/05/2013 20:58

Robyn Jessica is beautiful.
(Personally prefer the Y).

FetaCheeny · 31/05/2013 19:24

Robyn Jessica is lovely, prefer Robyn with a Y.

GoodbyePorkPie · 31/05/2013 20:31

Robyn Jessica is lovely.

Robyn makes me think of the Tomorrow, When the War Began books, there's a fantastic, strong female character of the same name.

Bowlersarm · 31/05/2013 20:35

Robyn Jessica or Robyn Isobel both lovely.

Much prefer it with a Y for a girl.

Mckayz · 31/05/2013 20:51

I prefer it with a Y.

Robyn Isobel is my favourite.

FurryDogMother · 31/05/2013 20:58

Robin, not Robyn - I just feel that the latter should be pronounced 'rob-ine'. Robin is a wonderful name :) I'd go for Robin Eloise, if it were me, but it isn't, so I shan't :)
